March 22 - 24, 2019

Students use the Taxonomy of Nursing Practice and the nursing process to apply specialized skills in caring for the childbearing and childrearing Health promotion, maintenance, and restoration are emphasized as students provide family centered care in a variety of acute care and community based settings. Students can complete their pediatric experience component of the course by traveling to Camp Boggy Creek in Eustice Florida. Cam Boggy Creek is “A camp where children with serious illnesses and their families can forget the word “no” for a little while and embrace the promise of “yes.” With the support of student volunteers, each family is paired up with a family pal, who acts as a host for the weekend. Depending on the family’s needs, family pal responsibilities can include greeting families upon arrival, touring them around camp, joining family members in camp activities, playing with the children when the parents are in parent-only activities, helping the family with any needs that arise, and generally helping them to have the best experience possible.

The student must be enrolled in the Associate of Science Degree Nursing Program and have grades of “C” or better in all prerequisites courses. Completion of NUR 2115, NUR 2115L, Psychology 1010 and Sociology 1010 are the required prerequisites for NUR 2215L. NUR 2215 is required in the same or previous semester.
