CNA/GNAs employed by a long-term care facility with at least one-year of experience may want to obtain Certified Medicine Aide (CMA) certification to obtain greater advancement.

HTH-5480 Certified Medicine Aide

Preparation, administration, and charting of nonparenteral medications will be taught to geriatric nursing assistants (GNA) who work in long-term care facilities. Applicants must be certified by the Maryland Board of Nursing as: 1) geriatric nursing assistants and 2) certified nursing assistants 3) be currently employed by a long-term facility and 4) have one year’s work experience as a geriatric nursing assistant in a long-term care facility. Textbook required.

Prerequisite: Students must successfully complete the Work Keys Assessment given in the CSM testing Center with a minimum score of 4 on all three tests.

HTH-5580 Medicine Aide Update

This course is designed to provide current medicine aides in long-term care facilities with the content necessary to meet Maryland state continuing education requirements.

Prerequisite: Expiration date of CMA certification must fall within 90 days of the start date of the update course.
