Title Organizational and Study Skills
Description Just as a carpenter needs the right tools and skills to frame a house, your child needs the right tools and study skills to be successful in school. Thankfully, you do not have to teach your child great organizational and study skills alone. Using a variety of study tips and strategies, this course will help your child identify their individual learning style, become more confident in handling school assignments, and improve time management; all skills that align well with high school, college, and career readiness standards. This amazing class will help your child build great habits that can last a lifetime.

Title Counselor in Training
Description Being a summer counselor is rewarding on many levels but comes with a great deal of  responsibility.  If you enjoy working with children and are 15 -17 years old, then this is the training program you've been waiting for! This course is designed to enable you to learn about leadership styles, principles, and the skills required to supervise a group of young students. You will be partnered with experienced counselors to learn the necessary skills to become a leader while having fun in the process. Valuable experience will be gained for future employment opportunities. All CIT's will develop a leadership plan, receive certification in CPR and First Aid, and receive a certificate of completion in leadership concepts. This course is a four-week program. Please  call for interview BEFORE registering at 301-934-7645. All interviews must be conducted at least two weeks before session is to start to be considered.  Summer Counselor in Training T-shirts are included. Students will receive a letter with documented community service hours.

Description Explore the world of a circus performer, the traditions, and the feel of being under the "Big Top."  Take your turn at trying out this non-competitive and challenging art form that combines the physical activity with cultural arts which includes acrobatics, juggling, improvisation, stilt walking, tight wire, and other circus experiences. Improvements in hand-eye coordination, balance, and self-confidence are just some of the noticeable benefits. Big Top Circus is under the direction of Michael Rosman, a graduate of Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus Clown College. *Sneakers and comfortable clothing required.

Title CPR and First Aid
Description Be the best you can be and help those around you as well. This course is designed to provide basic knowledge in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and emergencies. Topics to be covered include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, how to deal with an emergency, choking, clearing an obstructed airway, heart attack, and what to do when breathing, or heart stops. Participants will be skills tested at the conclusion of the course.

Title VEX Robots and Simple Machines
Description Using the versatile VEX IQ Robotic kit, you will build a multitude of models to explore robotics design. First exploring and manipulating simple machines, the building blocks of all robotics, then graduating to remote-controlled robots. You will design robots to overcome different challenges including those that have been used in previous VEX IQ Robotics national competitions. Visual Journaling is a contemporary version of the traditional drawing sketchbook. Learn techniques to combine pages of original art, personal writing, collage, and photographic images that reflect on your own life experiences. Visual Journaling is a growing trend and is a unique way to develop project planning skills, original expression, and creative thinking through the blending of art and verse.

Title Ultimate Drone Obstacle Course
Description Filled with pure action, enjoy one of the world's fastest growing sports, Drone Racing.  First learn about the basic safety of drone flying and the history behind drone racing as a sport.  From there you will progress through skill challenges and learn how to perform various exercises and maneuver to become familiar with the drone's speed and agility.  Use FPV (first person view) goggles and remote controls to maneuver the drone through short and long obstacle courses. Create the design and help build the obstacle course in preparation for the last days' final activity and competition. All students will go home with an interactive workbook, keepsakes, and trinkets so memories last long beyond the summer. Description Drone search and rescue is a necessity for first responders around the world, adding a new layer of solutions to save lives across the globe.  Take part in and learn from simulated missions during this action-packed and creative program.  Learn to fly drones and rely on their rescue team to collect vital data in a specific "rescue areas" to locate "victims" and safely rescue them.  Cutting edge and age-appropriate technology methods will be used to include creating plans, mission, and maps. Learn invaluable lessons on how to simply, quickly, and accurately make informed and targeted suggestions for real-world positive applications. Drone safety and social responsibilities of flying drones will also be discussed. All students will go home with an interactive workbook, keepsakes, and trinkets so memories last long beyond the summer. Description This class will teach you how to attack the SAT/ACT and win! Prepare for the math and the critical reading and writing portions of the SAT/ACT as well as the science portion of the ACT. It is intended to strengthen test-taking skills by focusing on familiarization with SAT/ACT-type questions, developing test-taking strategies, managing test panic, and increasing confidence and speed.  A review of test content includes basic math, algebra, geometry, data analysis, statistics, and probability as well as reading comprehension, grammar, essay writing, and science.  The newest edition of The Official SAT Study Guide, by the College Board, will be provided and is included in the cost of the class.
