AAY-7860 SAT/ACT Prep (Ages 14-17)

This class will teach you how to attack the SAT/ACT and win! Prepare for the math and the critical reading and writing portions of the SAT/ACT as well as the science portion of the ACT. It is intended to strengthen test-taking skills by focusing on familiarization with SAT/ACT-type questions, developing test-taking strategies, managing test panic and increasing confidence and speed. A review of test content includes basic math, algebra, geometry, data analysis, statistics, and probability as well as reading comprehension, grammar, essay writing and science. The Official SAT Study Guide, 2018 Edition will be provided and is included in the cost of the class.

Have you ever wanted the opportunity to pick the brain of an artist to find out their secrets? Then join us for Secrets to Drawing and get that chance! "Draw" upon the professional experience of nationally recognized artist and engineer Hank Caruso as you increase your knowledge and confidence for developing and presenting your own ideas graphically. Topics include the basics of developing an idea, working with light and shadow, creative use of shading effects, basics on human anatomy and poses and techniques for more effective compositions. Class will be held at the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum for both inspiration and real-life sketching examples. Students will need to bring a spiral bound 9"x12" or 11"x14" sketchbook (no newsprint or tracing paper), fine point felt tip pens and a bag lunch to class.

For the true beginner! Learn how to tune your guitar, properly hold and play, how to hold a pick, and how to play a chromatic scale. The rudiments of reading music, basic note reading and symbol recognition, lead guitar picking, beginning chords and strumming will also be addressed. The class will culminate with playing a simple song using G major, C major, and D major chords. Book is included in the cost of the class. Student must bring your own acoustic guitar.
