FACTUALITY: A 90-minute Crash Course on Structural Inequality in America

Join us for FACTUALITY, an all-in-one facilitated dialogue and crash course that simulates structural inequality in America. FACTUALITY's game delivery allows participants to get comfortable with being uncomfortable, allowing for a courageous conversation about structural inequality, in America. Participants assume the identities of characters encountering fact-based advantages and limitations based on the intersections of race, class, gender, faith, and sexual orientation. In under 90 minutes, you will discuss and unpack the structural limitations and advantages that coincide with various intersecting identities. Open to CSM students, faculty, and staff. Spaces are limited to the first 100 registrants.

Virtual Screening | Redeeming Uncle Tom: The Josiah Henson Story

Join us for a screening of the 2019 documentary, Redeeming Uncle Tom: The Josiah Henson Story, a ground-breaking documentary that will restore a hero of the abolitionist movement to his rightful place in history.  Josiah Henson, a dynamic man with unyielding principles, overcame incredible odds to escape from slavery with his wife and children. His life inspired the lead character of ‘Uncle Tom’ in Harriet Beecher Stowe’s 1852 classic novel which has been recognized as one of the sparks that ignited the Civil War. Critically acclaimed actor Danny Glover narrates the voice of Josiah Henson in the documentary film.

Netflix Watch Party | Becoming

Join us for a Netflix Watch Party of the 2020 documentary, Becoming. Join the former first lady Michelle Obama in an intimate documentary looking at her life, hopes, and connection with others as she tours with her book, “Becoming”. Students must have a Netflix account and install Netflix Teleparty prior to the event. Please RSVP using the link and we look forward to watching this documentary with you on February 25.

Irish American Heritage Month - Decorate-at-home St. Patrick’s Day Cookies | Register Here by February 14

St. Patrick’s Day is coming. Would you like to decorate cookies in the shape of shamrocks, pots of gold, and leprechaun hats? This is the event for you! Please register before February 14 to receive your cookie decorating kit at home (while supplies last). Cookies will be shipped directly to your home and we want YOU to share your cookie decorating skills with us using the hashtag # on CSM’s social media accounts. 

Irish American Heritage Month - Learn about Irish American History | Visit Exhibit  |  Listen to Recordings

Would you like to learn more about Irish American history and heritage? Check out this virtual exhibit with the Smithsonian Institution. You can virtually explore different pieces from Smithsonian museums all over the city to learn more about the impact Irish Americans have made on our country. You can also enjoy the music of Ireland by listening to the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. Take a break, and learn about learn about Irish American culture during Irish American Heritage Month.

Mindful Movement and Relaxation

In order to achieve true health and vitality, we must be well in body, mind, and spirit. Join Counseling Services for a discussion about the importance of movement and relaxation, followed by a series of exercises designed to open your energy centers and promote a sense of balance and symmetry in the physical body, led by Angelina Jonsson. This session incorporates principles from various exercise and yoga modalities, as well as different breathing techniques, and it aims to balance these three dimensions of wellness while guiding us towards deeper levels of peace and awareness. Lastly, the session will remind you how to listen to your own body so that you can facilitate further healing and regeneration.

No equipment is required, just a space big enough for a yoga mat. Appropriate for all fitness levels.

Angelia Jonsson holds a master's degree in Health Science with an emphasis on Sports Medicine and is a certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine.

Hollywood socialite and philanthropist Otis Swindles has been maliciously murdered at the opening of his new Jazz Club and we need some 21st Century minds to solve the crime. Was it the shifty maid? The spoiled son? The angry bookie? Put on your best 1920s costumes and delve into the clues and suspects to help our Private Investigators nab the criminal!

SGA Elections
Tuesday, April 27-Thursday, April 29

Student Life will host the 2021-2022 Student Government Elections virtually this semester due to the continued impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Elections will take place on April 27-29 and the election ballot link will be sent to the student body in myLearning. Students can only vote once using their mymail email address, so make your vote count. Candidates will campaign online starting April 12-23.

CSM Virtual Pet Parade

Do you have an awesome pet at home that you would like to put on parade? Join us for the first ever CSM Virtual Pet Parade! Please register your pet prior to the parade start, so we can see all the animals our students call family. All animals will be judged by event attendees in the following categories: Favorite Cat, Favorite Dog, Favorite Reptile, and Favorite Small Animal. The winner of each category will receive a $50.00 gift certificate to the CSM bookstore. We hope to see you there!
