George Mason University Transfer Agreement

Students can save up to


by completing their associate degree at College of Southern Maryland and then finishing up at George Mason University (based on average costs 2020-21). George Mason University also offers scholarships based on CSM graduates' GPA.

Articulated Program Requirements:

  • CSM students must apply by March 1st for fall admission and October 1st for spring admission. Fall applicants are expected to graduate in May. Summer graduates are not considered for fall admission. Spring applicants are expected to graduate in December. 
  • The guarantee of admission to George Mason University does not imply admission to a particular degree program. 
  • George Mason University accepts applications from CSM students who have earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science and wish to transfer directly from CSM and pursue a bachelor's degree.
  • Present a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.85 upon application to Mason.
  • English and Math foundation courses must be completed with grades of C or better before applying to Mason. Complete a minimum of 40 college-level credits toward the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Arts in Teaching at CSM.
  • If all coursework for the transfer degree is not completed at CSM, a 2.85 GPA is required on all prior college coursework. 
  • Graduate from CSM with the appropriate transfer associate's degree.
  • Provide the Mason Office of Admissions a final CSM transcript reflecting the transfer associate's degree conferral date. 

Articulated Program Benefits:

  • CSM students applying under this Agreement are automatically considered for a non-resident Patriot Transfer Scholarship. Students with a cumulative GPA of 2.85-3.49 are considered for a $10,000 annual award. Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5-4.00 are considered for a $12,000 annual award. Recipients must be classified as non-residents of Virginia and maintain full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester. The scholarship is offered for 2 academic years. Students are required to maintain a minimum 2.75 Mason GPA.
