You’ve worked hard earning your degree. Now it is time to make your achievements official. Be sure to meet with an Academic Advisor by August 1 to complete your graduation application. Summer graduates should tell their advisors

SOAR sessionsHelp a High School Graduate SOAR!

Know any high school graduates? Help them get started at CSM by helping them apply to the college and sign up for a mandatory SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration) session. New high school graduates who would like to attend CSM full-time are required to attend a SOAR session in order to be registered for fall.

Counseling June is PTSD Awareness Month

PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, is a mental health condition that develops in some people following exposure to a traumatic event. It is estimated that seven to eight percent of the population will face the challenge of PTSD during their lifetime.

Symptoms of the disorder include:

  • Recurring bad memories
  • Avoiding certain situations or things
  • Negative changes in thinking and mood
  • Unexplained changes in emotional reactions

If you are concerned that you or a loved one is dealing with post-traumatic stress, it is important to seek out the help of a mental health professional. Remember, professional Counseling Services are available to all CSM students.

If you’re going on vacation to Central American, South American, or Caribbean countries this summer, be sure to take preventative measures to minimize the risk of contracting the Zika virus.

Since Zika is chiefly spread through mosquito bites, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises travelers to take special precaution to guard against mosquito bites during their trips and for the seven days after they return home, to prevent a mosquito from passing on any potential infection.

Be sure to visit the CDC website for up-to-date travel notices and pack plenty of bug spray!
