HawkTalk Student Newsletter - Breathe Clean at CSM

Hawk Hint

Last chance to register! Spring and Minisession I classes begins January 25.

Start Here!

Breathe Clean at CSM

CSM has gone smoke-free. All campuses are now breathing cleaner as smoke, tobacco, and vape products are prohibited from all college locations and property. The new policy went into effect January 1. The Breathe Clean initiative applies to everyone on campus, from faculty and staff to students and visitors, whether outside, in a building, or in a vehicle–anyone who enters CSM properties and events.

For information on the policy and resources available to help you quit, visit CSM’s Breathe Clean webpage.

Winter Break is over. You’re relaxed, refreshed, and ready to learn, right? The Spring Semester begins January 25 so, now is the time to ensure you have secured the classes you need and the schedule you want. Do you need to see an academic advisor to get registered? Make sure you visit us soon, especially if you have an academic or advising "hold" placed on your account.

If you have a probation, athlete, or international student hold, be sure to bring the course information for the classes you are hoping to register for, to include the course numbers, 6-digit section codes, and the days and times. For example, ENG-1010 (123456) Monday/Wednesday 6 – 9 p.m.

If you have a “Time for Your Program Review” hold, visit advising so we can go over your program of study and remove the advising hold. From there, you will be able to self-register.

Changes Coming for Prospective Nursing Students

Changes Coming for Prospective Nursing Students

Requirements for students petitioning for admission to CSM's nursing program are changing. Starting in June, students will need to submit ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS) scores rather than ACT/SAT. If you have any questions, visit our nursing page today.

The TEAS is offered at the La Plata, Leonardtown, and Prince Frederick Campuses Testing Centers.

Advising Is by Walk-In Only in January

Advising Is by Walk-In Only in January

January is peak time for registration, so Academic Advising offices at the La Plata, Leonardtown, and Prince Frederick campuses, and at the Waldorf Center for Higher Education have moved to an all walk-in status in January so advisors can see as many students as possible. We appreciate your patience.

Make a Smart Start in 2017

Make a Smart Start in 2017

The ball has dropped, the last confetti has been swept away, and 2017 has begun. Are you working on at least one New Year’s resolution? Take steps now to increase the chances that your good intentions will last longer than the month of January.

Translate your resolution into a SMART goal: one that is SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ATTAINABLE, REALISTIC, and TIME-BASED.

Change is not always easy; A path to change often means we take a few steps forward, then fall back a bit, then move forward again. The key is never to allow those steps backward to be discouraging; use them to take a deep breath, evaluate your goals, and see how far you’ve already come.

If you need help setting goals and navigating your path to change, CSM Counseling Services is just a phone call or e-mail away.
