Speed Up Your Degree This Summer

Hawk Hint

Know Any Future Hawks?

If you know a graduating high school senior who plans to attend CSM in the fall, tell them to check out our steps to enroll page so they can apply and to sign-up for a mandatory advising and registration session. There, your friend will meet with faculty and academic advisors in a group setting and will be guided on how to self-register.

Speed Up Your Degree This Summer

Put the “pedal to the metal” with fast-paced summer courses! Get ready to go from 0 - 60 mph fast with these courses. If you have already successfully completed a couple of semesters, you are likely ready for a 6- or 9-week session. Regular semesters are 15 weeks long, so you will earn credits quickly but at an accelerated pace! See an academic advisor if you need help choosing a course for your major.

Summer Session Dates

  • Summer Session III (9 weeks)
    June 11 – August 12
  • Summer Session IV (6 weeks)
    July 9 – August 19

Register Now for Your Optimal Fall Classes

If you want to choose the best schedule for you this fall, it’s time to register! No payment is due until July 31, so you can get the schedule you want and make sure your 2018 - 19 FAFSA is complete.

Check your Progress in Student Planning in Online Services to see what classes you still need to graduate in your program of study. If you need help, go see an academic advisor.

If this is your second or third full-time semester, it’s time for a mandatory advising session, so you need to see an academic advisor to go over your program and progress. An advisor will help you to understand the classes you need and remove the mandatory advising hold so that you can register.

Code Green

Code Green

CSM is dedicated to decreasing energy costs and usage during the summer months, so it runs an 11-week Code Green Initiative each year. Code Green starts the week of May 21 and ends August 3. All administrative offices at the college close at 1:30 p.m. on Fridays during this time.

All classes, Kids’ and Teen College, and CSM’s St. Charles Children’s Learning Center programs operate on a normal schedule. Public Safety and Preparedness personnel also stay on campus.

Finishing Your Degree This Summer?

Finishing Your Degree This Summer?

If summer classes will get you the last credits you need for a certificate or degree, then it’s time to meet with an academic advisor. Get it done by August 1 to fill out an easy graduation application. You are almost to the finish line, but remember, graduation is not automatic!

Tell your advisor if you wish to participate in the graduation ceremony. Commencement and degree mailing information is available in the 2018 Commencement Guide.

No Hawk Should Go Hungry

No Hawk Should Go Hungry

The CSM Physical Plant team worked together with CSM employees, Gladys Jones and Jehnell Linkins recently to pick up more than 1,400 meal kits from End Hunger Calvert County in order to be distributed to students at CSM’s four campus locations. Meal kits were given to students who face food insecurities through our Hawk Feeder program initiative.

Looking for other ways to support?
As part of the Hawk Feeder program, you can now purchase food vouchers for someone in need from one of the three CSM College Stores or the CSM Café on the La Plata Campus. Food vouchers are $7 and can be redeemed for food and beverage with no cash back. Vouchers purchased from the Café can only be redeemed in the Café, and vouchers purchased from the College Store can only be redeemed in one of the store locations.

Tuition Increase

Tuition Increase

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) prides itself on offering the highest quality education at an affordable price and we are very cognizant of the economic impact the cost of education has on our students and their families. While we would prefer to maintain the current tuition rates, unfortunately economic realities dictate that we increase our tuition to continue offering the breadth and quality of classes and services necessary to meet the education standards you expect for the investment you make in your studies at CSM.

Therefore, beginning Fall 2018 semester, CSM will increase its in-county tuition by $2.50 per credit hour for residents of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's Counties. Tuition for out-of-county residents will increase by $5 per credit hour and for out-of-state residents it increases by $6 per credit hour. In addition, the combined fee is 25% of the tuition rate per credit.
