Priority Registration!

Lock in your preferred classes and times by taking advantage of your priority registration date. Opening day of registration for you depends on the total number of credits you have at CSM.

Check your program evaluation in Student Planning under “View Your Progress” to see your required courses for your program of study. If you need help planning for the spring semester, schedule an appointment now with an academic advisor, An advisor can help you plan for spring and beyond. Learn more about Student Planning.

If this is your first or third semester, you will encounter a normal Mandatory Advising hold at registration. So, see an academic advisor now and you will be free to register on your priority registration day.

  • November 12: Returning students who have 45+ credits
  • November 13: Returning students who have 30+ credits
  • November 14: Returning students who have 15+ credits
  • November 15: Returning students who have 1+ credit(s)

Classes are viewable November 6. Be sure to register before classes open up for new students on November 16.

Priority Registration for Military Personnel
Active duty military personnel and veterans can now receive priority registration on the third day of each registration period at CSM. This includes men and women in the National Guard and Reserves. See an academic advisor to take advantage of this benefit. New students who have not been entered into the system as military personnel yet will need to have an Active Military ID card or DD214 at that first meeting with an advisor.

Priority registration for spring will open November 14 for military personnel.

Keep the Momentum Going Between Fall and Spring!

The 2019 January Term will be January 3 – 20. This is the most accelerated term at CSM. If you feel like you’re ready to attend four days per week of intense instruction, this term may be for you.

There are morning, afternoon, and evening classes so you can complete a course in just three weeks! Read the refund policy for this term. See an academic advisor to discuss the nature of this term and if you need help choosing a class.

Drop Deadline Approaches

If you are considering dropping a class or changing your grade to an audit, you need to talk to to talk an academic advisor about your current grade before dropping/auditing a class.

If you have an advising hold, see an academic advisor to get the course dropped. You may also write to the online advisor at advisor@csmd.edu with your name and ID number to get the course dropped.

Students receiving financial aid or veteran benefits need to consult those departments before they drop or audit a course, since benefits could be affected.

Withdraw/Audit Dates
Last day to withdraw without a grade or change to credit/audit (2018 Fall Semester) is November 16.

Last day to withdraw without a grade or change to credit/audit (Fall 12-week Session) is November 19.

What’s Going on Across Campuses

Current students, you’re invited to an Internship Fair from 2 to 4 p.m. on November 7 at the La Plata Campus at the Center for Business and Industry (BI Building) in Room 103. Qualified and eager students will meet with local employers seeking interns for spring and summer 2019 internships.

Get some lessons on basic cooking techniques and meals on a budget at 2:30 p.m. on  November 7 in Building B, Room 104 at the Prince Frederick Campus at Facts and Snacks: How to Cook Budget Meals.

Students, faculty, and staff will get together from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on November 9 in Leonardtown Campus to share or observe self-styled and progressive art through music, painting, poetry, and more at Connect Café.

Third Annual Veterans Resource Day Coming November 7

Veteran Events

The St. Mary’s County Department of Aging and Human Services presents the third annual Veterans Resource Day on November 7, at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center in California, MD. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Veterans Affair, sponsored by the Student Association presents the Veteran's Day Memorial Brunch on November 12, at the Prince Frederick Campus, Building B, Multipurpose Room. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Student Association and Student Life presents the Veteran’s Day Recognition on November 12, at the La Plata Campus, Campus Center (CC Building), Lobby. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Are You Ready to Graduate This Winter?

If you are finishing up your final classes to graduate with a certificate or degree and you wish to walk in the January 17 commencement, be sure to see an academic advisor to complete the graduation application before November 15. Applying is free, but there is a fee for the cap and gown. Learn more on the Graduation page.

The deadline is December 15 to complete the free graduation application for all other students for letters of recognition, certificates and degrees by mail only.

Did you know you can see the English and math tracks for your program in Student Planning? Visit the page where you can “Plan your Degree and Register for Classes” or “View your Progress.” On the top bar, select “Academics” and then, “English and Math Tracks by Program.”


Theatre Auditions

Theatre Auditions

Get your monologue ready for auditions! The CSM theatre groups are having auditions for African American Folk Tales: The Tails of Br’er Rabbit performed by the Children’s Theatre and Hate Crime performed by Cause Theatre. Join us on November 12 and 13, starting at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center (FA Building) Theatre on the La Plata Campus. Potential actors should prepare a one-minute monologue; roles are available for performers aged eight and older.

During the week following Thanksgiving, Americans will spend millions of dollars in the shopping frenzies between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday is a national day of generosity following Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.

Join The CSM Foundation on Giving Tuesday this November 27 as we celebrate #GivingTuesday and give back to the community you call home.
