Research Help

A reference librarian is available for research help. Help can include finding library resources, using databases, and citing library resources. Call 443-550-6060 for more information.

Circulation and Course Reserves

Students and employees of CSM as well as residents of Calvert, St. Mary's, or Charles counties may borrow books from the library. Students and employees must use their College ID cards to check out books, and residents must have a valid local public library card. Circulating books may be borrowed for one month.  They may usually be renewed over the phone, in person, or by emailing a request to the library. Other materials such as periodicals and audiovisual materials may only be used inside the library.

Faculty may place materials related to their courses in a special reserve collection for restricted borrowing.  Either library or personally owned materials may be placed on reserve. Materials on course reserve circulate for differing amounts of time, ranging from "library use only" up to 1 week. Fines for overdue reserve materials are $1 per day.

Interlibrary Loan

Through interlibrary loan (ILL), we can order almost any book or periodical article that you need. Please allow 1-4 weeks for delivery of requested items.

ID Cards

Student ID cards are available at the Circulation Desk. ID cards are issued for all students currently enrolled in classes at CSM. A valid photo ID such as a driver's license, military ID, or passport is required to obtain a CSM ID card.  Student ID cards have a photo and the CSM student ID number. The first card is free, but there is a fee for replacement cards. Please contact the campus library for more information.

Copier and Scanners

The library maintains public service copier. It is located by the front desk. Copies are 10 cents each. The library also maintains two scanners in the computer lab. See library staff for assistance.

Quiet Study Room

The library maintains a quiet study room. This room is reserved for individual study. Please see the library staff for more information.

The library's resources include books, periodicals, audio-visual materials, computer databases, and the Internet.

The library contains approximately 60,000 volumes.

Reference Books

The library has about 2,000 reference volumes covering many subject areas. The law collection includes codes, cases, regulations, and encyclopedias for both the U.S. and Maryland. All reference materials are for use in the library only.

The Library holds upwards of 3,000 periodicals in a combination of print, database, and microfilm formats. We have several print and online periodical indexes. Periodicals do not circulate outside of the library.

Audio-visual Material

The library holds more than 5,000 audiovisual items, including videotapes, audio-tapes, slides, and CD-ROMs. These items circulate only to instructors but may be used in the library by others.

Computer Resources

The library has more than 40 computer workstations that offer access to the Internet, Microsoft Office programs, and CSM course software. From these computers, customers can access our periodical databases and other resources.

Miscellaneous Resources

The library maintains a collection of popular paperback books and a growing collection of audiobooks. A coin-operated copier is located in the microfilm room.
