Mandatory Advising

It is important that all students seeking a degree or certificate from CSM, or planning to transfer from CSM to another institution, consult an advisor concerning their career and educational goals.

Additionally, mandatory advising must take place:

  • Prior to beginning a program of study
  • Upon reaching 18 and 36 credits
  • Changing a program of study
  • Registration if you are on probation, are an international or energetics student or an athlete
  • Applying for graduation

During the online registration process, students will automatically be stopped when they are attempting to register for their 18th and 36th credit. The following error will appear in Online Services:

You are not eligible for registration. Time for your program review. You must contact an advisor by web, phone or in-person.

The purpose of this hold is to discuss your program of study, course selection, progress towards degree completion or transfer, and plan for future semesters. It may seem inconvenient but this discussion can save you valuable time and money by making sure you are taking the correct courses to complete your education and career goals.

You may Ask the Advisor at any campus for assistance.
