Lords and Ladies,

Thou must comest and enjoyest a full-day of activities and entertainment as CSM presents its second Renaissance Festival!

Renaissance festivals are popular throughout the country because they instantly propel visitors back to a time when lords ruled and peasants pleased, and they did so in the language and costumes of Shakespeare.

CSM’s festivities commence on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. with an evening of madrigals and other vocal music in the Fine Arts Center Theatre. Two full-days of revelry (sans alcohol) will take place on Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. Festival activities will take place in two locations. In the FA Theatre, the CSM Theatre Company will present repeat performances of the Greek classic Lysistrata, by Aristophanes, throughout the day.  All other activities, musical performances, face-painting, games, etc., will be on the lawn in front of the FA Lobby.  Activities are either free or priced by the vendor.

Prepare thyself to revel with master revelers at CSM’s Renaissance Festival, where pleasures of the ear and eye reigneth!

Thou please comest!

Lysistrata
Written by Aristophanes
$10 for all-day wrist band. Performances will be Friday and Saturday at 4 p.m.with a G-rated show and 7 p.m. for mature audiences.

Lysistrata is one of the few surviving plays written by Aristophanes. Originally performed in classical Athens in 411 BC, it is a comic account of one woman’s extraordinary mission to end The Peloponnesian War. Lysistrata persuades the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands and lovers as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace—a strategy, however, that inflames the battle between the sexes. The play is notable for being an early exposé of sexual relations in a male-dominated society.
