Description:

This program is appropriate for persons employed at the Naval Surface Warfare Center-Indian Head (NSWC-IHDIV) who are preparing to be technicians in an energetic material production environment.It introduces sensitivity and safety considera- tions required during production of energetic charge detonation. Material properties and machining/fabrication techniques will be part of the introductory course. Technicially specific course work includes a broad-based introduction to the field of rocket technology, energetic molecules and compositions, and solid rocket motor fundamentals. Additional topics include thrust equations, internal ballistics, temperature sensitivity, dual thrust rocket motors, transient operations, and motor design.

Technicians need to know how their work is integrated with the work of others within the production system. In general, the energetic material technician is expected to provide technical support to a variety of other manufacturing professionals and to perform production operations safely and efficiently.

The maximum number of credits accepted in transfer from other instituions to this program is 6.
