Summer Civic Leadership

Join students from other community colleges in Maryland for our annual Summer Civic Leadership program.  This three day training will take place at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)The training is designed for students to explore and develop their own leadership skills through interactive workshops and activities.  In addition, participants will participate in a full day group volunteer project in the community.  Register online HERE or to print and mail training and registration materials in PDF form click here (right click and hit “save target as” to open this document).

Volunteer Project

As part of the training, all participants will spend Wednesday volunteering at three different service sites: My sisters place, Our daily bread and Paul's Place. Students will be helping prepare and serve lunch to the program participants 


The first day is made up of team building and leadership sessions.  The second day consists of a full day group volunteer project with a site to be determined.  While the third day focuses on how to utilize leadership skills back in your own community.

Participants will stay at UMBC residence halls


Guest Rooms

Guest rooms are in the residence halls. Participants will be staying in a two double occupancy bedroom which shares one bathroom with other conference participants.  Rooms are equipped with basic cable TV, high-speed Internet service, local phone service with voice mail, and a Micro fridge unit. All rooms are furnished with beds, desks, chairs, closets/wardrobes, dressers, wall-to-wall carpeting, and blinds/drapes. In-house laundry facilities, lounges, study rooms, and vending areas are located in each hall. Pool tables, TV rooms, and pianos are also available in many of the halls.  You will have the option of submitting your roommate preference on the registration form.



Meals are will served in buffet-style in one of the College's dining rooms.



Participants will need to arrange their own transportation to UMBC.  Please check with your Student Life/Activities Department or Service-Learning office to see if there is group transportation leaving from your college.  Transportation will be provided to and from the volunteer site and for the “Night Out”.


Conference Fees

Participation fees are $175 per person (CSM students will need to only pay $25.00 and the rest will be covered by the college).  This fee includes lodging for two nights, all meals, evening entertainment, t-shirt, and conference materials. Students from colleges other than the College of Southern Maryland should check with your Student Life/Activities Department or Service-Learning Office to see if they are subsidizing this trip.

Registration is now available, interested participants can register either online or by mail.  Participants must be students of a community college for the fall to participate, unfortunately recent graduates are not permitted.  Registration fees are $175 (see above).  Please check with your Student Life Department or Service-Learning Office to see if they are subsidizing this trip.


In addition to the registration forms, each participant needs to return a signed copy of the Code of Conduct Form.
