Consumer Information (Student Right-to-Know)

In accordance with federal regulations, the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) provides prospective and current students as well as the general public with a variety of academic, institutional, and financial assistance information.

The Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA), as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA), includes many disclosure and reporting requirements.

Listed below is contact information for college offices designated to assist individuals in obtaining the institutional or financial information required to be disclosed. Paper copies will be provided upon request to the appropriate college office listed for each area.

CSM athletic teams compete in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) and Region 20 of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). A variety of information is available including intercollegiate athletic program participation rates and financial support data and graduation and transfer-out rates for students receiving athletically related student aid.

The October 29, 2010 U.S. Department of Education Regulations on Program Integrity Issues (75 FR 66831 - 66975) require educational institutions to be "established by name as an educational institution by a State through a charter, statute, constitutional provision, or other action by an appropriate State agency or State entity." and be "authorized to operate educational programs beyond secondary education, including programs leading t a degree or certificate." The College of Southern Maryland fully meets this requirement as attested by the following Resolution from the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

CSM offers a variety of educational opportunities including individual courses, certificate programs and Associate degrees in a wide range of subjects. Information about our educational programs is published in our Catalog, Schedule of Classes and through our web site. Instruction is supported by modern, state-of-the-art instructional facilities.

CSM offers a wide range of assistance available from federal, state, local and institutional programs including grants, loans, employment and scholarships. The Financial Assistance web pages provide information on eligibility requirements, application forms and procedures, satisfactory academic progress standards, disbursement of funds, refund policy and requirements for return of federal financial aid as well as information on federal student financial aid penalties for drug law violations. Information is also available regarding the official refund policy as well as the requirements and procedures for official withdrawal from the college. Students are also advised to review procedures related to the requirements for the return of federal financial aid.

CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law on March 27, 2020. We have been tasked by the U.S. Department of Education with disbursing emergency funds to our students to help with expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus outbreak.
