CSM Seeking Nominations, Expressions of Interest for Two Vice President Positions

The College of Southern Maryland has begun a nationwide search for two new positions: Vice President of Learning and Vice President of People, Culture, and Equity. This search is being facilitated by Dr. Preston Pulliams and Dr. Kate Hetherington of Gold Hill Associates, who are accepting confidential nominations and expressions of interest for the positions until Oct. 13.


CSM Kicks Off Fall 2023 Connections Literary Series Oct. 6

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) will kick off the Connections Literary Series this month, giving the community the opportunity to connect with working authors as they share their work and discuss their craft at three events this fall.


Special Guest Matt Scassero Discusses Opportunities and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy at CSM Velocity Center Sept. 26

The public is invited to attend an evening of lively discussion about the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence and autonomy with Matt Scassero, the director of operations and outreach at the University of Maryland Clark School of Engineering MATRIX Lab at University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland. The free event will be held at CSM’s Velocity Center in Indian Head Sept. 26, from 6-7:30 p.m.


CSM Closes All Campuses, Cancels In-person Classes and Activities Saturday, Sept. 23 Due to Severe Weather

All campuses of the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) will close on Saturday, Sept. 23, due to inclement weather associated with a tropical storm that will reach Southern Maryland overnight, Friday evening. All in-person classes and campus activities, including the Hawkland Gaming festival, are cancelled. Online classes will be held and online services will be available, as scheduled.


Partnership Enables CSM’s Students to Transfer to UMGC Seamlessly at a Discounted Tuition

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) and University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) this week held a signing ceremony to recognize the recently renewed transfer partnership between the two institutions. CSM, with four campuses in Southern Maryland, is one of UMGC’s largest transfer partners while being the six-largest community college in Maryland.


Institute for American Apprenticeships Receives $1M Maryland Works Grant; Partners with CSM to Establish Youth Apprenticeships for Technical Trades

The Institute for American Apprenticeships (IAA) and three partners were recently awarded a $1 million ($999,850.00) Maryland Works grant by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to fund the implementation of professional youth apprenticeship programs that address employment barriers for underserved and underrepresented populations in Maryland.


New VanGo Bus Route Provides Free Transportation for CSM Students to Reach Regional Hughesville Campus, Move Between All Campuses

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) and Charles County government have joined to begin a new bus route that will transport students to CSM’s Center for Trades and Energy Training and Center for Health Sciences at the college’s Regional Hughesville Campus. In addition, the new CSM Connector bus joins the existing bus lines between Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties and will assist students move between all CSM campuses via quicker routes.


All Gamers Welcome to Attend CSM’s First Hawkland Gaming Festival

What do swashbuckling pirates, giant robots, and grumpy unicorns have in common? They’re all the stars of games that will be played at the first-ever, day-long Hawkland Gaming Festival. Local gamers are invited to gather and play at the festival Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. at College of Southern Maryland's (CSM) La Plata Campus.


Dedication of Early Learning Center located at CSM Marks New Beginnings for Charles County PreK

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) officially opened its newest facility last week dedicated to expanding early childhood program access for young learners. In an Aug. 24 ribbon-cutting ceremony, CCPS staff was joined by elected officials, teachers, students and College of Southern Maryland (CSM) representatives to celebrate the opening of the new Early Learning Center, La Plata, located at the CSM La Plata Campus.

CSM Safety App Features Real-Time Notifications, Puts Security in Palm of Your Hands

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Public Safety and Preparedness Department encourages CSM students, their families, faculty, staff and any interested members of the community to download the CSM Safe App to ensure that timely information is at users’ fingertips during both emergency and routine security/safety situations. Launched in 2019, the CSM Safe App is free and allows users to access everything from campus maps, to the CSM Headlines newsfeed and receive immediate notifications concerning delayed openings, traffic congestion, safety threats, or medical emergencies at the college.

The College of Southern Maryland's (CSM) was recently featured in The Community College Daily -- a national publication produced by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) -- because of CSM's homeschool program's rapid growth, and to highlight CSM's commitment to deepening relationships with southern Maryland's homeschool communities. There are four more weeks left for homeschool families to register for the next session of classes.


CSM Addresses Status of the La Plata Campus Pool

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) announces that it remains open to continued conversations with state and county leaders to find a viable solution to address the community’s interest in having an aquatic facility in Charles County. CSM permanently closed its La Plata Campus indoor pool in March 2021.


Keith Sanderson Signs on as Head Coach to Lead CSM’s Softball Program

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) announces that Keith Sanderson has joined CSM as the head coach of the Hawk’s softball team. The coach joins the CSM Athletic Program bringing 24 years of coaching experience and deep connections to several southern Maryland athletic organizations.
