CSM Students Amplify Their Voices at National Convening

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) participated as one of 40 host institutions for the nationwide Amplifying Student Voices Convening this month. The hybrid event brought together more than 400 student leaders to engage in both virtual and in-person conversations about the future of belonging, diversity and equity in higher education, and about strategies for fulfilling the promise of an inclusive democracy.

CSM Celebrates Opening of New James C. Mitchell Student Resource Center at La Plata Campus

College of Southern Maryland (CSM) staff and students celebrated with Charles County dignitaries on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the ribbon-cutting for a newly renovated James C. Mitchell Student Resource Center (SR Center), which had previously served the Health Technology Building (HT Building) at the La Plata Campus. The SR Center is now open to serve as a welcome center and to provide vital support services in one location for new students and current students to access and interact with CSM’s offices of Admissions, Advising, the Hawk Hub, Counseling Services, Disability Support Services, and the Testing Center.

Early College Students Walk/Run in Recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 3, 2024

In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Early College students from Calvert County participated in a breast cancer awareness walk/run around the College of Southern Maryland Prince Frederick Campus on Thursday, Oct. 3. The walk/run promoted exercise, being healthy, and breast cancer awareness. Completing the one-mile leg fastest were Liron Frieson of Calvert High School, Brett Eide of Huntingtown High School, and Genesis Copeland of Huntingtown High School. Finishing the three-mile leg the quickest were Zachary Morgan of Patuxent High School and CSM students Diallo Taylor and Katie Dolan, with an honorable mention going out to Max Kenner of Patuxent High School.

CSM’s Global Initiative Committee Invites Public to Learn About Nepalese Food, Music, and Culture Oct. 10

October 2, 2024

The College of Southern Maryland’s Global Initiatives Committee invites students, staff, faculty, and the Southern Maryland community to attend the Nepalese Cultural Educational Panel and पर्व Parva (Celebration) Oct. 10 at the CSM La Plata Campus or via Zoom. The free event will include folk music, Nepali cultural gastronomy, and a panel discussion on “Cultural literacy and identity of Nepali diaspora in the U.S.”

CSM Alumna Dr. Caroline Holland Combs Returns as Dean of the College's School of Health Sciences

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) announces the appointment of Dr. Caroline Holland Combs, DNP, MSN, RN as the college’s new dean of the School of Health Sciences after an extended national search process. Combs is a three-time graduate of CSM and a previous member of the CSM nursing faculty. The Calvert County resident returns to the college in her new role Oct. 7.

CSM Foundation Welcomes Jeane Wharton as New Executive Director

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) announces the appointment of Jeane Wharton as the new executive director of the CSM Foundation – the fundraising branch of the college that promotes academic excellence, growth, progress, and the general welfare of CSM by raising and managing scholarship funds to support student success. Wharton, a resident of Lexington Park, joins the CSM team Sept. 23.

Stephanie Rolle Joins Nonprofit Institute at CSM as its New Director

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) welcomes Stephanie Rolle, of Charles County, as the new director of the Nonprofit Institute (NPI) at CSM. She joins the team Oct. 7. As the director of CSM’s Nonprofit Institute, Rolle will oversee the fostering of professional development and capacity building for the numerous and diverse nonprofit groups working in Southern Maryland.

CSM Announces Summer 2024 Dean’s List

September 11, 2024

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has released its dean’s list for the 2024 summer sessions. Students who have earned 12 or more credits at CSM are eligible to be considered for the dean’s list. At the end of the fall, spring, and summer sessions, full- and part-time students who have completed at least six credits during the semester and have earned a term grade point average of 3.5 or better will be included on the dean’s list. Sixteen CSM Students Earn Scholarships from Greater Waldorf Jaycees and CSM Foundation

The Greater Waldorf Jaycees and College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Foundation awarded 16 scholarships to CSM students at a dinner reception and ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The ceremony marked the 25th year that the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Foundation and the CSM Foundation have partnered to award 595 Charles County students more than $1.5 million through a shared scholarship fund.

CSM Celebrates 2024 Health Careers Readiness Graduates

College of Southern Maryland (CSM) students who have chosen to pursue careers in health care were celebrated Aug. 28 during the college’s Health Career Readiness Recognition ceremony. Sixty students were recognized for completing programs this year to become clinical medical assistants, community health workers, medical coders, certified nursing and geriatric nursing assistants, dental assistants, phlebotomy technicians, or paramedics.

CSM Hosts Transfer Fairs, Offers Accessible Pathways to Possibilities with 292 Transfer Agreements to Four-Year Institutions

September 4, 2024

In recent months, the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) finalized 15 new transfer pathways with West Virginia University – so CSM can now boast that the college offers nearly 300 articulation agreements with 71 different transfer partners. This means that CSM students who meet certain criteria are given priority enrollment or guaranteed access to four-year colleges and universities worldwide.

From English as a Second Language Courses to an Engineering Career, Armando Rocha Thanks CSM for Constant Support

Five years ago, College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Alum Armando Rocha ‘19 was struggling to keep up with his full-time job, taking CSM courses and continuing trying to learn English. Today, Rocha boasts a Construction Management Technology associate of applied science degree, a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, and is working for Whiting Turner Contracting Company as a design and construction engineer.

CSM Refines Brand with Student-Centered Vision; Unveils New Logo

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) unveiled its new institutional rebrand and logo to all faculty and staff Aug. 16 during the college’s 2024 Convocation – a collegiate tradition that brings college employees together for a day of planning before the fall academic semester begins. The new brand represents the college’s identity, values and reputation, and embodies how students and the community experience CSM.
