CSM Announces Dean’s List for 2021 Fall Sessions

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has released its dean’s list for the 2021 fall sessions. Students who have earned 12 or more credits at CSM are eligible to be considered for the dean’s list. At the end of the fall, spring and summer sessions, full- and part-time students who have completed at least six credits during the semester and have earned a term grade point average of 3.5 or better will be included on the dean’s list. Southern Maryland Delivers More Than $157,000 to CSM Students’ Success During 2021 Giving Tuesday

The numbers are in, and they are pretty impressive. Community members joined College of Southern Maryland (CSM) alumni, faculty and staff to donate $157,551 during this year’s Giving Tuesday – a 24-hour event held Nov. 30. All monies raised during the fundraising campaign champion student success by supporting scholarships, athletics or the Hawk Feeder micro-pantries and Hawk Pantries.

CSM Closes for Winter Break Dec. 23 at 3 p.m.

All campuses of the College of Southern Maryland will close Dec. 23 at 3 p.m. for Winter Break and reopen Jan. 3, 2022. Access to online services, including registration for credit and non-credit classes, remains available at www.csmd.edu.

CSM Students Race to Identify Cells in Nation’s First Ever ‘Cell Bowl’

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) students at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) recently competed in the first ever “Cell Bowl,” a competition that had students from across the country racing to identify different cells that they will encounter in their medical professions. CSM’s nine-member team achieved rankings as high as second in the nation before ultimately finishing at third place in the Eastern region.

CSM Earns Top National Ranking in Seven Categories, Including #1 in Business Administration Degree Program

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has received top national rankings in a number of categories – including its degree and certificate programs in Business Administration, Administration and Management, IT and Systems Programs, and Accounting. CSM was also listed as one of Maryland’s top community colleges and overall online college. The research firm Intelligent.com based its findings on CSM’s flexibility, faculty, course strength, cost and reputation.

CSM Professor of Communications Dr. Sarah Merranko Earns Alan G. Penczek Service-Learning Faculty Award

The Campus Compact Mid-Atlantic (CCMA), a non-profit higher education membership association, has selected College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Faculty Senate President and Professor of Communications Dr. Sarah Merranko, as the community college winner of the Alan G. Penczek Service-Learning Faculty Award. The award is presented to a college faculty member for his/her excellence in integrating service-learning into the curriculum as well as for their impact on students and the greater community college community. Additionally, the CCMA award also acknowledges the recipient’s professional leadership and achievements.

First CSM Students Graduate from Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. Leadership Academy, Earn State Recognition, Scholarships

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) marked Senate President Emeritus Thomas V. “Mike” Miller Jr. Public Service Day this month by recognizing the first graduates of CSM’s Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. Leadership Academy. In addition, students gathered at the Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. Center for Leadership to write holiday cards to the region’s veterans and donate food to CSM’s new walk-in Hawk Food Pantry.

CSM Health Information Management Program Meets ‘Gold Standard’, Receives National Certification

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Health Information Management (HIM) Program has received initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). CAHIIM monitors the nation’s academic degree programs in health information management (HIM) and health informatics (HI) through arduous reviews of – and maintenance of – accreditation policies and processes.

So, it makes sense that it’s a rich research area for CSM Professor of History and Humanities and Social Sciences Department Chair Dr. Christine Arnold-Lourie, who sees herself as a historian of how communities develop, define themselves, and change over time.

College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Alumna Chelsea (Brown) Clute ’06 is very busy these days getting ready to participate in her seventh CSM Giving Tuesday – a 24-hour, online giving event that will raise needed monies for CSM’s scholarships, athletic programs, and the college’s food pantries. Coming up on Nov. 30, this international day of giving has become CSM’s largest single-day fundraising event, garnering more than $675,000 in support over the last nine years. The countdown for the world’s biggest day of generosity has begun and the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Foundation is among the nonprofits readying for Giving Tuesday, a 24-hour, online giving event scheduled for Nov. 30. The international day of giving follows Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, to highlight a season and spirit of kindness that focuses on giving to others after three days fixated on consumerism.
