Celebrate CSM on Giving Tuesday December 2

The season of giving continues on December 2 as the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Foundation holds a 24-hour online day of giving to support students.

Giving Tuesday, held annually the first Tuesday following Thanksgiving, is a global movement to financially support causes that strengthen communities.

In recognition of Giving Tuesday the CSM Foundation will hold donation challenges and prize giveaways for those who contribute to helping students continue their education.

“For many students, financial support can be the difference between moving forward with their education or putting their dreams on hold. This kind of support opens doors, and empowers students to succeed,” said CSM President Dr. Yolanda Wilson. “I invite you to join us this Giving Tuesday and help a student continue their education and reach their goals.”

Donations can be made to the Hawk Fund, which provides students in need with tuition assistance, educational supplies, or helps stock the Hawk Pantry. Giving Tuesday gifts can also support a specific program, department, or scholarship.

Several college partners are sponsoring Power Hours, designated times in which donors will be entered into a prize drawing. The Power Hours and prizes are:

  • 6 a.m. | Treat Yourself Power Hour:  $100 Sweetbay Restaurant & Bar gift card, Jaw Bone wireless speaker, and a few items for pampering yourself!
  • 9 a.m. | Yeti Full of Fun Power Hour: Yeti Tundra Cooler and a few fun surprises!
  • 1 p.m. | Stay Connected Power Hour: Apple iPad and Apple Pencil
  • 3 p.m. | Hot Pizza Power Hour: Ninja Artisan Outdoor Pizza Oven

Give Back Challenges

Students, alumni, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate in Giving Tuesday through a series of challenges. Donors who qualify and identify themselves on the donation form will be entered into a prize drawing.

  • Students who donate will be entered into a drawing to win a CSM Foundation scholarship, which can be used for either tuition or books.
  • Alums who donate will be entered into a drawing to win an alumni row flag.
  • Faculty and staff who donate will be entered into a drawing to win a Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0.

Dr. Wilson is also encouraging all CSM employees to join her in supporting students through the President’s Challenge, pledging to donate $1 for every CSM employee who participates in Giving Tuesday.

Several generous CSM supporters are stepping up through donation matches to double the impact of each dollar. Below is the list of matching donors:

  • Maryland Academy of Advanced Practice Clinicians (MAAPC) for the Future Nightingales Endowed Scholarship

  • Lorraine Diana ‘79 and Robert Guite will be tripling the impact of every gift, contributing $2 for every $1 donated on Giving Tuesday up to $100,000

“We are deeply grateful for the immense generosity of our community partners, alumni, staff, faculty, and the students who step up to support their peers,” said Susan Mudd Vogel, CSM Foundation Executive Director. “Every contribution reminds students that they are part of a community that cares about them and believes in their success.”

The CSM Foundation hopes to surpass last year’s success, when nearly 300 donors contributed more than $184,000 to student success initiatives.
