Accolades, Accomplishments, and Highlights: NASM Certified Nutrition Coach

Earning my GED in 1990 ignited a passion for learning in me and gave me confidence that I previously lacked. At first, my commitments to my family and my career made pursuing higher education seem unachievable. Completing my associate degree at CSM was gradual and challenging, as I learned to overcome obstacles and create balance in my home, work, and family.

After I completed my associate degree in human services at CSM in 2014, I immediately transferred to what’s now UMGC. I graduated magna cum laude with my bachelor’s degree in just over two years of study, and I knew I wanted to continue furthering my education. In May of 2021, I earned my master’s degree in health psychology, graduating summa cum laude and a candidate for valedictorian of my graduating class. Learning is lifelong, and coming back to CSM as Student Engagement Manager and Adjunct Psychology Professor, I appreciate the opportunity to ignite and cultivate that passion in my own students.

I’m eternally grateful to Dr. Tracy Harris, for his mentorship and encouragement in my academic pursuits.  His support was instrumental in achieving my associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. In challenging times, I wanted to give up, but the thought of disappointing him was more difficult to bear than disappointing myself.
