The College of Southern Maryland’s Global Initiatives Committee, the Multicultural Center, and EXITO Club is inviting students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the greater Southern Maryland community to the Hispanic Heritage Festival.

This festival is a celebration of Hispanic culture, highlighting the rich traditions, music, food, and contributions that shape our community. Guests will enjoy live performances, thought-provoking discussions, and opportunities to connect through art, history, and shared experiences.

About Our Guests

CSM’s Ritmo Caché Latin Ensemble:

CSM’s Latin Ensemble, Ritmo Caché, specializes in Salsa, Mexican, Afro-Cuban, Merengue, Latin Jazz, and other musical styles of Latin America.

Dr. Perla Guerrero – “Changing Communities: How Latines Make Home in the South" with Q & A

Perla M. Guerrero is associate professor of American Studies and director of the U.S. Latina/o Studies program at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research and teaching interests include relational and comparative race and ethnicity with a focus on Latinas/os/xs and Asian Americans, space and place, immigration, labor, U.S. history, and the U.S. South. She has received multiple awards, including two from the Smithsonian Institution, to be a postdoctoral fellow at the National Museum of American History (NMAH). The first allowed her to work on her book project, "Nuevo South: Asians, Latinas/os, and the Remaking of Place," and the second to contribute to the Our American Journey‚ Immigration/Migration Initiative, a Smithsonian-wide endeavor with a new exhibit to open at NMAH.

Educational Exploration:

View important Latino/Hispanic contributions to the formation of contemporary U.S. society. This will include CSM swag bags for participants who complete the exploration and fill out their “passports.”


Food:

Los Compadres will serve local Mexican cuisine, including food and drink.
