Benny Morgan Concert Series: Sahun Sam Hong, piano

December 13, 2025  |  2 p.m.

A man in a gray blazer and glasses sits thoughtfully with his hands clasped, against a dark background.

Praised as an “artist of enormous prowess” (Verbier Festival Newsletter) with a “wide range of rich
colors” (San Diego Story) and playing that is “imaginative, intoxicating… high-voltage” (Sindelfinger
Zeitung), American pianist Sahun Sam Hong brings his distinctly magnetic tone and artistic vision to
recital, chamber, and concerto stages worldwide.

Hong is a prize winner of numerous international competitions, including the Vendome Prize at
Verbier, International Beethoven Competition Vienna, and Naumburg International Piano
Competition. He was also a recipient of a 2021 American Pianists Award.

About the Performance: “Harmony of Soul: Exploring the Romantic Piano”

Acclaimed pianist Sahun Sam Hong presents “Harmony of Soul,” a recital program charting the evolution of Romantic expression. The first half moves from the elegant and sparkling invitation of Mendelssohn and the introspection of Brahms, into the vast emotional landscape of late Beethoven. Following intermission, the atmosphere pivots toward the high drama and technical demands of the Romantic piano virtuosi. The program concludes with the intense lyricism of Chopin and the dazzling, often ferocious power of Liszt, charting the piano’s full spectrum from inner contemplation to fiery abandon.
