Emily Creswick Writer's Process Series: Jim McDonald (Poet)

Jim McDonald is “The Houseboat Poet” and has been a Southern Maryland resident since 1965. He has been drink and drug free since 1989. In 2014, he returned to the College of Southern Maryland to earn an English degree. He lives in La Plata and is finally fulfilling a long-standing dream of becoming a poet and writer.

McDonald has earned two AA degrees from CSM, one in general studies and a second in English, and a bachelor's in English from UMGC. These accomplishments have been three decades in the making for the La Plata resident whose career has taken him from a carpenter to a storyteller, published poet, and author of five books with more to come.
