The College Survival Guide is a recurring feature that directs members of the CSM community to free resources and support for whatever challenges they may be facing. At CSM, no Hawk has to fly alone.
Want to connect with your campus community? Student clubs and organizations are a great way to connect with Hawks who share your interests. No matter where you attend classes, there are clubs and activities for practically any interest—and if not, it's easy to start your own!

Stay CSM Safe During Hurricane Season
Southern Maryland hurricane season runs June through November. Don’t wait until a storm is approaching to prepare.
- Update emergency contacts and make sure you know at least one important number by heart.
- Know your shelter locations—at home, at work, and at school.
- Build an emergency kit. Be sure to include any crucial medications.
- Charge devices and backup batteries. Remember that batteries start to lose capacity with age and repeated charging.
- Stay informed through official alerts. Make sure you can still receive vital information even when there’s no power or cell service, such as with a battery-powered weather radio.
Preparedness today can make all the difference tomorrow.

Partial Road Closure: MD 225 Hawthorne Rd.
Partial closures of portions of MD 225 Hawthorne Rd. may affect students traveling between the La Plata Campus and the Velocity Center. A detour route will be in place during the closure, which is expected to last approximately five months. Be sure to plan accordingly and allow additional travel time, especially during the first few weeks as traffic patterns adjust.
