CSM Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity Pamela Mitchell Earns Professional Development Award from Educational Systems Federal Credit Union

CSM Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity Pamela Mitchell has been selected for the 2020 Maurice Erly Professional Development Award.College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity Pamela Mitchell, of La Plata, has been selected for the 2020 Maurice Erly Professional Development Award. Educational Systems Federal Credit Union (FCU) awards this distinction through the credit union’s Support Education Foundation.

CSM nominated Mitchell for the award because of her dedication to teaching, according to CSM Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Eileen Abel.

The $1,000 award, provided by the Support Education Foundation which was started by Educational Systems FCU, will help support Mitchell’s work toward her additional master’s degree and other industry certifications in cybersecurity.

“Assistant Professor Mitchell stands up our cybersecurity club and award-winning student competitive cybersecurity team, the CSM Cyberhawks,” shared the Dean of CSM’s School of Professional and Technical Studies Bernice Brezina. “She devotes many hours to providing students this additional outlet for honing their cyber skills and advancing their knowledge. She also manages our networking lab and provides leadership for our networking courses and puts in the time necessary to ensure that our cybersecurity students are provided with the best preparation to pass the CISCO and CompTIA networking certifications that help them to obtain employment. This award is well-deserved.”

The Maurice Erly Professional Development Award is named after a longtime Prince George’s County educator. Erly retired from the Prince George’s County Board of Education after 38 years of service, with more than 25 of those years spent at the coordinating supervisor of staff development. Erly served on the Board of Directors of Educational Systems FCU for more than 44 years, with 25 of those years as treasurer.

The Support Education Foundation, Inc. was established in 2017 by Educational Systems FCU to help the Credit Union fulfill its core purpose of serving the education community. The mission of the Support Education Foundation is to operate and support charitable giving programs for the benefit of members of the education community. Funds raised through the 501(c)(3) organization are used for programs such as student scholarships, professional development awards and other initiatives to help students achieve in the classroom.
