March Brings Live Theater, ‘Future of Work’ and ‘Learning Not to Procrastinate’ Events, and Spring Break

Transfer Scholarship Webinar. March 1. 12 – 1 p.m. Zoom. Did you know there are a variety of ways to finance your education once you transfer to a four-year institution? In this webinar, attendees will learn about transfer scholarships that are available to students as they transfer out of CSM to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year institution. Free. The COVID-19 pandemic not only thrust most of us into remote work but accelerated other technological developments that have brought the Future of Work into the present. Learn about the College of Southern Maryland’s Mechanical and Electrical Engineering partnership with the University of Maryland College Park and Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) located at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in St. Mary’s County. March 4, 5, 11, and 12 at 7:30 p.m. March 6 and 13 at 2 p.m. La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, Brad and Linda Gottfried Theater.  Family may be found in the strangest places. A group of young assault survivors leans on each other in their healing journeys. Little do they know, their beloved therapist, who founded and leads the group, has motives that shroud his dark past. Oddments was written by CSM student Sarah Slack and CSM alumna Sydney Mitchell. The production is directed by the playwrights. Free. Auditions: Almost, Maine. March 8, 9. 6 pm. La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, Room 141. Almost, Maine is a play by John Cariani, comprising nine short plays that explore love and loss in a remote, mythical almost-town called Almost, Maine.  Community members interested in auditioning should prepare a one-minute comedic monologue and prepare to tell a joke! Getting Unstuck: Simple and Smart Ways to Overcome Procrastination. March 9. 2:30 – 4 p.m.  La Plata Campus.  Procrastination is common, but it can be a real liability to good mental health and academic success. Ward Virts Concert Series: Antony Zwerdling. March 13. 3 p.m. Prince Frederick Campus Multipurpose Room B. Antony Zwerdling is an active voice teacher and performer. He sings opera, oratorio and art song, and has performed over twenty-five operatic roles. The companies he has appeared with include Washington National Opera, Opera Lafayette, Wolf Trap Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Lake George Opera, Washington Concert Opera, Opera Boston and Ash Lawn Opera. Free.

CSM Jazz Festival Concert. March 25 and 26. 7:30 p.m. La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, Brad and Linda Gottfried Theater. The Randy Runyon Project, led by CSM’s jazz and saxophone instructor, Randy Runyon, will perform at the March 25 event. Benny Morgan Concert Series: Jennifer Cooper.  March 26. 3 p.m. Leonardtown Campus Auditorium.  Jennifer Cooper offers a unique, deeply varied repertoire of entertainment, blurring the boundaries of genres and styles.  She is an instructor of music at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and the President/CEO of Go-DIVA! Productions, Inc. Free.
