CSM Cybersecurity Professor Lakisha Ferebee Earns National Recognition in Instructor Competition

The Learn-A-Thon is designed to immerse students and instructors in hands-on cybersecurity learning. Ferebee incorporated multiple learning modules into her curriculum, including Introduction to Cybersecurity, Networking Basics, Network Defense, and Cyber Threat Management. In total, 42 students participated across her combined classes.
“This competition gave students a chance to experience cybersecurity in a real-world, competitive setting,” Ferebee said. “They showed up, put in the work, and took ownership of their learning. I could not be prouder of how they performed.”
As part of her award, Ferebee will receive a Cisco Prize Kit, which includes Cisco Wireless Airbuds, a Cisco-branded Tumbling Tower game, and five CCST Cybersecurity certification vouchers from Certiport to distribute to students.
The recognition highlights the strength of CSM’s cybersecurity program and its role in preparing students for high-demand careers. Cisco Networking Academy praised Ferebee’s efforts, noting the lasting impact instructors like her have in building the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.
“This achievement is a reflection of Professor Ferebee’s commitment to innovation in the classroom and her passion for student success,” said Dr. Bernice Brezina, dean, CSM’s School of STEM and Professional Studies.
