Art of Innovation STEAM Festival Returns to CSM Velocity Center April 11
Families are invited to spark creativity and curiosity at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Velocity Center at Indian Head on Saturday, April 11, through hands-on learning and discovery.
The annual Art of Innovation STEAM Festival is a free event bringing together math, science, and the arts for a day of interactive exhibits, demonstrations, musical performances, and family-friendly fun.
Hands-on activities invite families to build, draw, and explore together. Attendees can step into virtual reality and pilot an airplane, gaze through high-power telescopes to see worlds above the sky, enjoy live music, and ignite a love for the arts.
“We want to inspire young people to see how creativity, imagination, and logic come together to solve real-world problems,” Quattlebaum said. “By engaging in fun, hands-on experiences alongside peers, families, and the broader community, participants of all ages can deepen their understanding, build confidence, and strengthen their ability to think critically through challenges.”
The Velocity Center offers opportunities to blend STEM and the arts throughout the year through the Makerspace, a collaborative workspace providing community access to advanced, professional-grade equipment, including 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering irons, and vinyl printers. The space also provides hardware and software for gaming, robotics, and app development. While many Makerspace workshops are open to the public, some courses require memberships. Annual and monthly memberships are available for those who have completed the Introduction to Makerspace class. This course can be found in the Continuing Education Course Catalog.
Additional information about the Art of Innovation STEAM Festival is available on the event webpage. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance, though registration is not required.
