Code Green Fridays

Code Green is designed to shrink the college’s carbon footprint during the hot months of summer by reducing building and infrastructure usage.

During the weeks of CODE GREEN, most CSM buildings and services will close at 1:30 p.m. on Fridays May 16 through July 25, 2025 and remain closed throughout the weekend except for special events/circumstances that are approved in advance by the president.

Please note, this program does not impact the operating hours at the Velocity Center, the Center for Trades and Energy, the Center for Transportation, Public Safety, and the necessary service units.

For Employees

During Code Green Fridays, all participating employees are to work their required hours each week. Full-time staff employees are still required to work a total of 40 hours each week regardless of the early closing time on Fridays during Code Green Fridays. Please note, full-time faculty (12-month faculty) are still required to work a total of 35 hours each week during summer months.

Hourly employees should accurately record their actual hours worked each day on their electronic timesheets. There will be no special code to enter on your electronic timesheet for Code Green Fridays. For those employees who work a 40-hour workweek, holidays (such as Memorial Day and Independence Day) must be recorded as 8 hours only (not 8.25, 8.5, 9, 10, etc.). Code Green Fridays hours cannot be “made up” on holidays by recording more than 8 hours of time.

A suggested revised Code Green Friday’s schedule would be to reduce time taken for lunch breaks to 30-minutes (instead of an hour) and shift your start/end times earlier or later to compensate for the three and half-hours early stop on Fridays.

Employees should work directly with their supervisors to develop an approved Code Green Friday’s plan that works for the individual and the unit. Some modifications may be necessary to make the intent of the program work for your area while keeping the business of the college moving forward. If you have any questions about how to complete your timesheet during the Code Green Friday’s program, please contact Human Resources at hrd@csmd.edu.
