Center for Trades and Energy Training

The College of Southern Maryland plays a significant role in shaping the local economy by educating and training the future workforce and enriching the lives of Southern Maryland residents. 

The 30,000-square-foot Center for Trades and Energy Training (CT Building), the first building on the Regional Hughesville Campus, provides residents direct access to specialized training in career fields that have substantial growth potential.


Resources include:

  • A Welding Lab fitted with 20 welding booths
  • A Carpentry Lab outfitted with tools, materials and equipment for hands-on training
  • A fully-equipped Electrical Lab with structural building mock-up
  • An HVAC Lab complete with operational HVAC systems
  • A Plumbing Lab with resources that imitate both residential and commercial plumbing systems
  • A Core Lab, featuring basic hand and power tools for a proper introduction to a career in trades
  • A CAD lab with color plotter
  • 4 classrooms for instructional use
  • 20 computer stations
  • 1 conference room
  • A public Kitchenette with soda and snack machines
  • Maryland Center for Environment Training (MCET) administrative offices
