About

I go by Professor Allen or Professor A. I've been teaching since 2018. I've worked in healthcare for nearly two decades. Currently, I'm a compliance specialist, specializing in the privacy and security of healthcare data.

Outside of my day job, I am a realtor, author, speaker, consultant, and the founder of a social organization for women. I currently reside in Prince George’s County with my husband and our boys.

I enjoy creative arts! I find creative arts to be therapeutic amidst the stress of daily demands. I can be found coloring, cooking, painting, building something with Legos, or writing.

Educational Background

  • Master of Business Administration, University of Maryland University College
  • Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Legal Studies, Strayer University
  • Associate of Applied Sciences in Criminal Justice, Eastern Gateway Community College

Q&A

I believe that transparency and connection are key parts of learning. While I have a hybrid approach to learning based on the subject and audience, I tend to gravitate towards a facilitative-authoritative style. I start with a lecture, but it almost always evolves into a discussion! I encourage my students to ask questions, and I listen to their answers. I probe and ask follow-up questions as needed. I empower them to take initiative. Rather than answer their question outright, I may push back and encourage them to go find the answer on their own or with a partner. I also readily admit when I don't know the answer, and we collectively seek it out. I turn learning into an experience; that's how it sticks!

  • Painting
  • Travel (local, domestic, and international)
  • Good Food (eating and cooking)
  • Yoga
  • Interior Design
  • Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity
  • Women’s Empowerment

All in all, I am passionate about learning and experiencing all that life has to offer. When you strip away all the material things, all you have left is what you've learned and what you've experienced.
