Real Students, Real stories: IN THEIR OWN WORDS

Real Students, Real Stories

THIS WEEK HEAR FROM:
Christian Carston
Nursing Program

“Although my path here has differed from others, I truly feel that I am where I am supposed to be and that my life experiences have helped to keep me grounded and focused. I can say confidently that I am a compassionate, determined, and resilient student that is committed to ensuring that communities like mine have access to quality healthcare.

My experience with CSM has been a phenomenal one. I truly appreciate the community at CSM. From the staff to the professors, whenever I have needed assistance there was always at least one person willing to lend a helping hand.

CSM has afforded me the opportunity to become a more focused student while managing my other responsibilities outside of education. The last several semesters I have been able to take courses completely online, which makes managing a full-time job and parenting a toddler much more manageable.

I plan to graduate with honors and finish my BSN at the University of Maryland, College Park. From there I look forward to working in my community as an ER Nurse and ultimately a flight nurse.

My main focus in life is to continue making my education a priority to serve as a role model for my son so he understands that his dreams and goals are possible.”

CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH: mobile DEVICES

Mobile devices are a technological marvel and, for most of us, a daily necessity. We take them with us literally everywhere, and they know more about us than just about anybody. Like any other digital device, there’s no ultimate security solution, but a little prevention goes a long way.

  •  Lost It: We’re all our own worst enemy when it comes to data security. Your information is exponentially more likely to fall into someone’s hands by accidentally leaving it somewhere than because some genius mega-hacker accessed it remotely. Lock your phone with a pattern, code, or password; they’re more secure than thumbprints.
  • Anti-Theft and Tracking: Use a trusted security app that allows you to remotely track, lock, and even wipe your device in case of loss or theft.
  • It Knows Too Much: The apps you use and the device itself can all collect an unbelievable amount of information about you. Use privacy settings to restrict what data your apps can access to what’s absolutely necessary.
  • Keep It Updated: New security holes are constantly being detected and patched.
