CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH: PRIVACY

Privacy in our digital world is all about trying to limit what information is collected about you and protecting your sensitive personal data. Short of going off the grid, it’s practically impossible to sweep away your digital footprint, but there are steps you can take to reduce it:

  • Don’t Overshare: Limit what you post and share, even if you think it’s a secure space.
  • Read the Fine Print: Check the privacy policy for sites and apps to see what they collect. If it seems sketchy, don’t use it!
  • No Such Thing as a Free App: Regardless of privacy options, information is always being collected, especially with “free” services. They make their money by selling your data; you’re not the customer, you’re the product.
  • Practice Safe Tech: To browse anonymously, use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and/or a browser designed for privacy.

CSM COLLEGE SURVIVAL GUIDE

The College Survival Guide is a recurring feature that directs members of the CSM community to free resources and support for whatever challenges they may be facing. At CSM, no hawk has to fly alone.

NOT SURE YOU CAN AFFORD GROCERIES? It’s hard to focus on your studies and your goals when you’re not sure where your next meal is coming from. CSM’s Hawk Pantry and Hawk Feeder micro-pantries are available on the La Plata, Leonardtown, and Prince Frederick Campuses for students experiencing food insecurity.

Hawk Feeders are drop-by micro-pantries that are always available while the college is open.

Any current CSM student or employee in need can come to any of our three Hawk Pantry locations and receive up to 30 pounds of food per week, at zero cost and with complete confidentiality. Holiday food items will also be available during the months of November and December.

Whether you’re looking for an on- or off-campus job, a paid internship, or a potential career path, College Central Network (formerly Job Connection) is the go-to career posting site for CSM students and alumni.

You can upload your current resume or use College Central Network’s template to create a resume and begin the search for the position that’s right for you. It also includes a video and print library on topics related to getting and keeping the job, such as salary negotiations, attending job and career fairs, and more!
