It's Time for Commencement, Recognition Ceremonies, Music and Thought-Provoking Discussions as CSM Celebrates Throughout May

Chorale And Chamber Choir Concert. May 4. 7:30 p.m. La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, Brad and Linda Gottfried Theater. The CSM Chorale is CSM’s men's chorus while the CSM Chamber Choir is a select chorus of 12-16 singers open to more advanced students. Both are conducted by CSM Professor Siobhan O’Brien. This concert will feature small and large ensemble vocal numbers as well as vocal chamber music and solos by members of the ensembles. $10 general admission; $5 military with ID, seniors age 65 and up, youth age 17 and below; $5 CSM students, staff, and faculty with ID. Southern Maryland Concert Band. May 6. 7:30 p.m. La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, Brad and Linda Gottfried Theater. Spring 2023 Commencement. May 12. 10 a.m., School of Liberal Arts. 1 p.m., School of Professional and Technical Studies. 4 p.m., School of Science and Health, La Plata Campus, Physical Education (PE) Building. CSM will celebrate the class of 2023 with three in-person ceremonies at the La Plata Campus. All physical campus locations will be closed during this time. Barbershop Extravaganza and Concert: Round Midnight. May 13. 7:30 p.m. La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center (FA Building), Brad and Linda Gottfried Theater. “Round Midnight” is a barbershop quartet that has been thrilling audiences for nearly two decades with their one-of-a-kind style, demonstrating how close harmony can be applied to different musical genres such as R&B, pop, jazz, rock, and Broadway. The quartet is a three-time Top 10 World Finalist in the Barbershop Harmony Society International Barbershop Quartet Contest. There will be a workshop with youth during the day before the annual barbershop show at 7:30 pm. Ward Virts Concert Series: David Constantine, Percussion. May 21. 3 p.m. Prince Frederick Campus, Building B, Multipurpose Room 104. Dr. David Constantine is currently a percussionist with a prominent United States military ensemble. In addition to his orchestral playing, Constantine is a prolific solo and chamber percussionist. He has been awarded top prizes in international competition both in the United States and Western Europe. The Ward Virts Concert Series is presented by sponsors CSM Foundation, Dr. and Mrs. Henry Virts, and Anne and Stovy 'George' Brown. The series is also supported by the Arts Council of Calvert County. Professor of English Bishnu Ghimire will present a talk on “Multilingual Writing Pedagogy and the Question of Equity and Inclusion in Community Colleges” as part of the Provocations Faculty Excellence Speaker Series.
