The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) 2024 spring theater season kicks off this weekend with two productions of family-friendly classics: First, “Beanstalk! The Play!” and then Goldilocks.

Beanstalk! is the famous story that follows the adventures of Jack, a young boy with his head in the clouds and his nose in a book of fairy tales. When the magic beans Jack trades for the family cow grow into a gigantic beanstalk, Jack finally gets the chance to have a fairy tale adventure of his very own. Now if he can only find the treasure, save his family, and get the cow back, today might just really be his magical fairy tale afterall. Filled with hilarious characters and more twists than a climbing vine, "Beanstalk! The Play!" is one show that's guaranteed to grow and grow and grow right into your heart.

With a comic spin on the fairy tale, Goldilocks is once again confronted by the Three Bears ... and Joe, the Bears' species exchange student. From Goldilocks' house to the Bears' home and back again, a slew of fairy tale characters cross Goldilocks' path to give advice and tell their tales. This fresh adaptation teaches young audiences the meaning of responsibility through its clever, upbeat dialogue and audience participation.

CSM is excited to present these shows at a special daytime matinee on Fridays, Feb. 23 and March 1, at 10:30 a.m. These special daytime performances are reserved for field trip and homeschool groups; prior reservations are required, and tickets will not be sold at the door.
