There is Help in a Crisis…
The St. Mary’s County Health Department (SMCHD) and Charles County Health Department (CCHD) proudly announce the launch of a joint mobile crisis team serving both counties. Operated by the Affiliated Santé Group (Sante), this new initiative delivers timely, in-person support to individuals experiencing behavioral health emergencies. It reflects a growing commitment to accessible, compassionate care for residents in urgent need.
The mobile crisis team features a licensed mental health professional and a peer support specialist who respond to individuals in their homes or community settings. Available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., these professionals are trained to de-escalate crises and provide guidance toward appropriate long-term support. Outside of those hours, telehealth support runs from 4 p.m. to midnight, with 24/7 phone counseling services also available. To access help, individuals can call or text 988.
With over 25 years of experience, Santé is Maryland’s largest crisis provider and brings a wealth of expertise to the Southern Maryland region. The team’s goal is to offer an alternative to traditional emergency response—reducing emergency room visits and minimizing arrests during behavioral health crises. “This mobile crisis team will collaborate closely with local resources and partners,” said Tina Marie Brown, director of Santé Southern Maryland Crisis Response. “By connecting residents to the right support, we aim to divert individuals from incarceration and ensure they receive the compassionate care they deserve.”
This expansion of crisis services marks a pivotal step toward a more resilient, responsive behavioral health system. Through strategic partnerships and community-centered solutions, SMCHD, CCHD, and Santé are working together to enhance access, promote healing, and empower individuals across St. Mary’s and Charles Counties.
