Programs of Study
Students completing this degree program will be prepared to seek entry-level positions as junior or paraprofessional accountants in business, industry, government, or public accounting firms. Students currently employed in the accounting field can expect to increase their potential for advancement in the field. Courses emphasize general knowledge from a number of disciplines as well as specialized accounting skills.

This basic certificate option is intended to prepare students for entry-level positions as bookkeepers and accounting or payroll clerks. Upon completion of study, the graduate should be able to apply basic accounting principles to such tasks as extending, balancing, and checking ledger figures; assisting in cash and security counts; performing footings and extensions; and preparing accounts receivable confirmation. Experience in the use of automated accounting systems is included and students have a choice of electives in accounting or related subjects.
Courses in this certificate may be applied to the advanced accounting certificate and the associate degrees in accounting and business management.

The advanced accounting certificate option encourages the student to develop more complex skills than those required at the basic certificate level. The program prepares the student to function in a variety of accounting clerk/bookkeeping positions. Students are encouraged to give careful attention to the selection of electives which are consistent with their career goals. Courses in this certificate may be applied to the accounting and Business Management associate degrees. This program is fully available online.

This sequence of courses prepares students to perform manual bookkeeping and accounting tasks consistent with the duties of clerks in the following areas: accounts receivable, accounts payable, sales order, stock, purchase order, and accounting. This program is fully available online.
