Military and Veteran Support and Resources

Veteran and military-connected students enjoy a community of support and camaraderie while pursuing an education at CSM. These resources and support services are just some of the reasons CSM has often been named a Military Friendly® institution.

CSM Resources

Students using VA educational benefits can take advantage of priority registration to sign up for their classes on the first day of registration, regardless of the number of credits completed.

Veteran and military-connected students have a dedicated academic advisor on CSM’s Veterans Benefits team to guide them in navigating their educational experience.

A Veterans Lounge has been established on the La Plata Campus as a dedicated space for student veterans where trust, support, and camaraderie can be found and fostered in an academic environment. Visit us in the Learning Resource Center (LR Building), Room 103 on the La Plata Campus.

The Veterans Club is open to all student veterans. For more information, contact Jeffery Havenner at jwhavenner@csmd.edu.

Check out CSM’s FinancialAidTV for short, easy-to-digest videos related to using your VA educational benefits to pay for college.

Disabled veterans can contact Disability Support Services to request accommodation for their classes.

Pursuing your education is a positive and rewarding experience, but it can also bring with it stress and challenges. Free, confidential mental health support is available at all campuses through CSM Counseling Services.

CSM’s online Scholarship Finder lets you search for and apply for more than 200 CSM scholarships with a single application.

Community mediation can support veterans and their families in building honest, loving, and resilient bonds. Mediation can help you navigate the strain that military service can put on relationships, including old and new family dynamics; conflict that may arise due to physical or emotional trauma you experienced; having difficult discussions with people you want to reunite with; and more.
