Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF)

CARES / HEERF I

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law on March 27, 2020. We were tasked by the U.S. Department of Education with disbursing emergency funds to our students to help with expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus outbreak.

On April 10, 2020, CSM was awarded $1.2 million in Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund – Student Aid funds under section 18004(a)1 of the CARES Act. CSM used these funds to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

CRRSA / HEERF II

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERF II) is authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Public Law 116-260, signed into law on Dec. 27, 2020.

On January 14, 2021, the Department of Education notified College of Southern Maryland (CSM) of a $1.2 million award of Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund – Student Aid funds under section 314(a)1 of the CRRSA Act. CSM used these funds to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

ARP / HEERF III

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) is authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Public Law 117-2, signed into law on March 11, 2021, providing $39.6 billion in support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 13, 2021 the Department of Education notified College of Southern Maryland (CSM) of a $4.9 million award of Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund – Student Aid funds under section 2003(a)1 of the ARP Act. CSM used these funds to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
