Tuition Waivers

If a course has sufficient enrollment, the college shall waive the credit course tuition for Maryland residents who are age 60 and over. Contact the Registrar's Office. All fees still apply.

If you are receiving Social Security disability benefits based on your work record, the college will waive tuition charges upon confirmation of student eligibility. Students are required to pay all fees. To apply for the waiver, obtain a Social Security Disability Waiver form from the college’s Financial Assistance Department. The form can be downloaded from the Financial Assistance Department Forms Page.

Take the form to the Social Security Administration for verification and return it to the college’s Financial Assistance Department. If you're eligible, the waiver will cover tuition charges not covered by other financial assistance. You must complete the form annually.

If you are a former federal employee receiving disability benefits from your federal retirement or pension authority based on your own work record, the college will waive tuition charges. You are still required to pay all fees. To apply for the waiver, obtain a Civil Service Disability Retired Waiver form from the college’s Financial Assistance Department. Take the form to the appropriate agency for verification and return it to the college’s Financial Assistance Department. If you're eligible, the waiver will cover tuition charges not covered by other financial assistance. You must complete the form annually.

Under provisions of state law, members of the Maryland National Guard may be eligible for a 50 percent waiver of tuition at the college. To qualify, Guard members must provide an eligibility letter obtained from their Guard unit for each semester that the waiver is requested and must also show a current military ID verifying their active participation in the Guard. These documents must be provided to the Financial Assistance Department each semester for which the waiver is requested.

Under provisions of state law, certain individuals who are participating or have participated as foster children in the state of Maryland’s foster care programs may be eligible for a waiver of tuition and fees at the college. The Maryland Department of Human Resources publishes a roster of potentially eligible persons, which the college uses along with other documentation to determine the student’s eligibility. If you believe you may be eligible for the Foster Care Tuition Waiver, contact the college’s Financial Assistance Department to request a determination of eligibility.

If any student is a resident of this state and enrolls in an instructional program that has been designated by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) as a statewide or regional program, the student shall pay only the student tuition and fees payable by a resident of the county that supports the community college.

Students enrolling in a statewide program are eligible for the in-county tuition rate if the designated statewide program is not available at the community college in the student's county of residence, or the program at the community college in the student's county of residence has reached the program's capacity. Students enrolling in a CSM statewide designated program must complete additional forms for verification of eligibility. These forms are available through the Admissions Department and must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the payment of tuition.
