Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery Open Call for Exhibition Proposals 

The College of Southern Maryland’s Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery is accepting exhibition proposals for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 academic years.

Eligibility

Artists residing within the United States who have a professional body of work are eligible. Proposals for solo and group exhibits as well as independent curatorial projects are welcome. All media, styles, and concepts are encouraged though proposals are prioritized towards complementing the visual arts department’s foundational study of ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, and two/three-dimensional design.

The Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery supports and promotes the visual arts within the College of Southern Maryland and the larger Southern Maryland community. Its purpose is to display artworks and create opportunities for engagement through educational programming.

Gallery Space

The Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery is approximately 400 square feet with 50 feet of wall space and a 10-foot ceiling. 12 pedestals of various sizes are available.

Selected Artist(s)

Artists will be offered an approximate eight-week exhibit with consideration made to the artists’ submitted calendar preference(s).

Artists will be offered a $250 USD stipend for shipping/transport of artwork as well as a $250 USD stipend for an artist talk and/or workshop presented on campus.

Artists are responsible for insurance of artwork during transportation. They must also be 18 years+ and complete required College of Southern Maryland contracts and forms.

Exhibited Artwork

Delivered artwork must be packed securely for both transport and on-site storage.   Please no loose packing peanuts.2D artwork must be ready to hang with appropriate hardware. Please no removable adhesive fasteners.  3D artwork must be stable and self-supporting. Technology must be provided by the selected artist(s) if digital displays are required. Unless the selected artist(s) prefer to install/deinstall the exhibited artwork themselves or with assistance, artwork will be installed by the Gallery Director.

 

Submission Requirements

  • Completed online form, including;
    • Brief exhibition proposal
    • Curriculum vitae
    • 10-15 image portfolio of representative, or actual, artworks to be exhibited (Limit file sizes to 10 MB or less)
    • Image list

Submission Deadline

Entry submission is due by January 2, 2026, for review in January 2026.
