2026-2027 Regents Scholarships for Maryland Community College Transfer Students

The Regents Scholarships are the most prestigious awards offered by the University System of Maryland (USM). Each year, approximately 3-4 full Regents Scholarships and about 12 partial scholarships are awarded to Maryland community college transfer students.

One application is used to consider students for all full-time scholarship opportunities. Applicants who are not selected for a Regents Scholarship are automatically considered for the partial scholarships.

USM Full Regents Scholarships

  •  Obtain a near 4.0 grade point average to be a competitive applicant.
  • Must maintain a 3.2 GPA to retain the scholarship.
  • Most Regents Scholarships require full-time enrollment, though some allow part-time attendance.
  • Some, but not all, awards consider a student's demontrated financial need.
  • Covers tuition and required fees, room and meal plan (or the institution's calculated off-campus expenses), and a $1,000 annual stipend for other educational expenses, such as books or computer equipment.

USM Partial Scholarships

  • Obtain a near 4.0 grade point average to be a competitive applicant.
  • Some awards allow for part-time enrollment.
  • Most, but not all, partial scholarships consider a student's deomnstrated financial need.
  • For one or two awards, student eligibility may be dependent on county of residence.
  • Provides funding that can be used to address various expenses that are part of the cost of attendance.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a Maryland resident (see USM policy on residentcy for admission and tuition).
  • Be seeking your first bachelor's degree.
  • Complete an associate degree or at least 56 credits toward an associate degree by the end of the semester in which you are applying.
  • Pursue any major leading to a bachelor's degree at any USM institution within the academic year that follows graduation from the community college or the semester in which at least 56 credits have been completed.
  • Apply by June 15, 2026

Please Note: Early college high school students are not eligbile for these scholarships. Those students must apply to USM as a high school graduate with advanced standing and are eligible for freshman scholarships.

Steps for Application Submission

  1. Visit LINK for the student application.
  2. The student application includes:
    • Application form (enclosed);
    • Personal statement related to your goals (see prompt on the application);
    • At least one letter of recommendation from the community college;
    • A second optional letter of recommendation;
    • Official transcript from all colleges attended; and
    • Up to two items that provide evidence of the student's scholarly or creative activities (e.g., pdf of a research poster; photo of a sculpture display).

The USM transfer scholarships have been designated to provide financial aid to Maryland community college students who are planning to transfer to USM institution after graduation from a community college or after completing the last 56 credits.

Yes, applicants that plan to begin their studies an USM Institution in the spring semester should apply in the same application cycle as the students who intend to begin in the previous fall term. Students who intend to begin in the spring are expected to meet all application requirements by the regular deadline.

The student should apply as if they were going to graduate in May. The student must maintain the GPA requirement in the fall and then they can enroll in a USM Institution in the Spring.

Yes, but it is recommended to have a 3.8 to 4.0 to be a competitive applicant.
