USM Full Regents Scholarships

  • Obtain a near 4.0 grade point average to be a competitive applicant.
  • Must maintain a 3.2 GPA to retain the scholarship.
  • Most Regents Scholarships require full-time enrollment, though some allow part-time attendance.
  • Some awards consider financial need (not required for all).
  • Covers tuition and required fees, room and board (or calculated off-campus expenses), and a $1,000 annual stipend for educational expenses like books or computer equipment.

USM Partial Scholarships

  • Obtain a near 4.0 grade point average to be a competitive applicant.
  • Some awards allow for part-time enrollment.
  • Most, but not all, partial scholarships consider financial need.
  • Help cover various costs of attendance at a four-year USM institution.
  • Scholarship awards typically range from $2,000 to $4,000 per academic year and are renewable for up to two years.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a Maryland resident
  • Be a Maryland community college graduate or have earned at least 56 credits toward an associate degree.
  • Have an excellent community college grade point average (GPA should be close to a 4.0 to be competitive for Regents Scholarships).
  • Pursue any major leading to a bachelor's degree at any USM institution within the academic year that follows graduation.
  • Some awards, but not all, require demonstrated financial need.

Required Documentation

  1. Scholarship Application Form
  2. Personal Statement of the student’s educational and career goals
  3. Official copy of the community college transcript 
  4. Unofficial trasncript copies or grade slips from all other colleges and universities attended 
  5. One or two letters of recommendation from faculty or staff members at the community college
  6. OPTIONAL: Evidence of the student’s scholarly and creative activities – limit of two items (can include scanned copies of artwork, photos, creative projects, research papers, published material, honors, awards, etc.)

Please submit all the materials above to transfer@csmd.edu no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, May 30. This allows us time to select the nominees, get the nomination letters from the President's Office, and submit the applications by the July 1 deadline. 

Please note:

  • The single application form applies to all full-time scholarships. If you are not awarded one of the highly competitive Regents Scholarships, your application will automatically be considered for one of the other scholarship programs offered.
  • Most, but not all, awards consider financial need.

The USM transfer scholarships have been designated to provide financial aid to Maryland community college students who are planning to transfer to USM institution after graduation from a community college or after completing the last 56 credits.

Yes, applicants that plan to begin their studies an USM Institution in the spring semester should apply in the same application cycle as the students who intend to begin in the previous fall term. Students who intend to begin in the spring are expected to meet all application requirements by the regular deadline.

The student should apply as if they were going to graduate in May. The student must maintain the GPA requirement in the fall and then they can enroll in a USM Institution in the Spring.

No, the minimum GPA requirement ranges from 3.8 to 4.0 depending on the award.

Yes, Community College students can apply for multiple scholarships if they meet the requirements for those scholarships; however, the applicants will use the link to complete the designated applications of their choice (Part-Weinberg, Gross, Schaefer, Board of Regents, and Kelly).

There is no minimum or maximum word count required for the professional and academic goals essay component of the application, but the essay should not exceed two pages.
