The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Foundation will join the global online movement #GivingTuesdayNow to aid CSM’s most vulnerable students experiencing challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic. #GivingTuesdayNow is a day of giving and unity that will take place on social media May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented needs caused by the coronavirus.

All proceeds raised during the event will go to the CSM Hawks Student Emergency Fund  which has already seen more than $50,000 in donations from 107 donors in support for CSM students. The CSM’s Foundation’s goal in participating in #GivingTuesdayNow is to raise an additional $50,000 to help students with food and living incidentals, technology and educational supplies and tuition assistance.

“We are grateful to our donors and our many Southern Maryland friends who know our students are struggling with issues related to the stay-at-home order, childcare and in some cases unemployment,” said CSM Vice President of Advocacy and Community Engagement and the Executive Director of CSM Foundation Michelle Goodwin. “We are all doing all we can to help our students continue their education during unprecedented hardships, but every day, we are learning that more and more students need help.”

Since March, through the generosity of alumni, employees and the community, the CSM Foundation has disbursed more than $38,000 for food and incidentals directly to CSM students in immediate need.

Please visit CSM Foundation’s #GivingTuesdayNow campaign on its CSM Alumni and Friends Facebook page throughout the day May 5 to learn how to double your donation’s impact through matching funds. In addition, there will be giveaways and entertainers will be making appearances throughout the day.

All donations are tax-deductible, and 100 percent of funds go directly to those in need.  While #GivingTuesdayNow is primarily an online giving event, donors can also mail donations dated May 5, 2020 to the CSM Foundation at PO Box 910, La Plata, Md. 20646.
