Maryland Transfer Intensive Launches to Strengthen Community College Pathways and Boost Statewide Bachelor’s Degree Attainment

In April, the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program (Aspen) and the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) announced the launch of the Maryland Transfer Intensive — a statewide collaboration designed to significantly improve community college transfer outcomes. Over the next seven years, 25 public and state-aided institutions, including College of Southern Maryland (CSM), will coordinate efforts to boost attainment for those seeking bachelor’s degrees, expand equitable opportunities for Marylanders, and build on Maryland’s ranking as the second most educated state in the country.

CSM Congratulates 80 Health Career Readiness Graduates

College of Southern Maryland (CSM) students pursuing careers in health care were celebrated May 8 at the La Plata Campus during the college’s Health Career Readiness Recognition ceremony. Eighty students were recognized for completing programs this year in: Veterinary assistant; certified medical administrative assistant; health information system; certified nutrition coach; certified personal training; Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) and Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA); dental assistant; phlebotomy technician; certified clinical medical assistant; and medical laboratory technology.

Smithsonian Exhibition on Innovation Arrives at College of Southern Maryland

Maryland Humanities is thrilled to kick off the Maryland tour of Spark! Places of Innovation at the College of Southern Maryland Velocity Center on May 17. The exhibition highlights innovation in rural communities. Both the College of Southern Maryland Velocity Center and Life Journeys Writers Guild serve as the host partners for the tour’s first stop and collaborate with local organizations to create public programming around the Smithsonian exhibition’s themes and ideas from a regional standpoint.

Approximately 175 people attended the conference entitled ‘Purpose-Driven Vision: Move from Ideation to Action’ that set out to empower and energize women entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders during Women’s History Month.

CSM Campuses Open 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20; Online Courses Continue as Scheduled

Due to weather conditions, all College of Southern Maryland (CSM) campuses and instructional sites will open on a delayed schedule beginning at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20. All in-person classes will begin at 10 a.m. and all in-person classes that were planned before 10 a.m. will not be held. All online classes and online services will be held and available as scheduled. Essential operations employees should report to work following the direction of their supervisors.

CSM Hosts 35 Middle and High School Teams in 'High Stakes' Robotics Tournament

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) hosted 35 teams of local and regional middle- and high-school students last weekend at the Southern Maryland VEX V5 Robotics Tournament held at the La Plata Campus. At the Feb. 15 tournament, student-team-built robots were inspected, put to the test, judged, and awarded for their high-tech efforts.
