CSM to Host Two Red Cross Blood Drives in June; Joins Governor"s Call for #SleevesUpMD
Social Distancing Does Not Have to Mean Social Disengagement
The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is proud to partner with the American Red Cross and sponsor two blood drives at its Prince Frederick Campus June 17 and 30. The blood drives coincide with the recent #SleevesUpMD challenge issued by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and the Maryland State Police asking all Marylanders to raise pledges for blood donations.
According to the American Red Cross, blood supplies are at a critical low and just one lifesaving donation can save as many as three people. With no known end date in the fight against the coronavirus in sight, the Red Cross needs the help of blood and platelet donors to maintain a sufficient blood supply for weeks and months to come. Donating blood is essential to community health and the need is constant. As part of the nation’s critical infrastructure, healthy individuals can still donate in areas that maintain stay-at-home guidance as the world waits for a vaccine.
“You can still go out and give blood,” said U.S. Surgeon General Jerome M. Adams, MD, MPH, in a Red Cross press release. “We’re worried about potential blood shortages in the future. Social distancing does not have to mean social disengagement.”

At each blood drive, American Red Cross staff follow the highest standards of safety and infection control.
