Student Government Association

The Student Government Association (SGA) represents your voice in the administrative affairs of the college.

Each CSM campus has chapters which are advised by the Vice President of Student Equity and Success. The SGA is funded by the student activity fee, and all registered students are members.

Student Government Elections

Student Life will be hosting Student Government Elections online for the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year. I know we are used to having a blast at Spring Fling and we are definitely going to miss those fried oreos and funnel cake this year, but we hope to be back soon. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. The application period will begin on Monday, March 29 and run through Friday, April 9. Please apply to one of the Officer positions if you're interested in making a difference in the lives of students at the College of Southern Maryland.

Candidates will be allowed to campaign virtually beginning on Monday, April 12 through Friday, April 23 using the CSM Mobile App and social media. Elections will take place on Tuesday, April 27 - Thursday, April 29, and the election ballot link will be released on myLearning.

The La Plata Student Association serves by representing student opinion, addressing campus needs through targeted programming and the maintenance of tradition, and providing opportunities for leadership development in order to enrich the quality of student life.  Its dedicated staff and elected officers have the obligation to carry out projects promoting student activity.

President Kelsey Kluh

Hey Hawks! I’m Kelsey Kluh, your 2020-2021 La Plata Campus Student Association President. I graduated from La Plata High School in 2019 and am going on my second year at CSM. This is also my second year as an officer in our Student Association. My current degree program is Arts and Sciences, AA. You may also recognize me from the Women’s volleyball and softball teams.  I’m always here to help, so feel free to stop by our office or shoot us an email! I hope you have a great school year!

Vice President Kia Smith

Hi everyone! My name is Kia Smith, yes like the car, and I am the Vice President for the College of Southern Maryland’s LaPlata Campus Student Association for the 2020-2021 school year. I’m super excited to be part of an awesome team here at CSM. I am a Nursing major and plan to have a career as a Nurse Anesthetist. I currently am part of CSM’s Cross Country Coaching staff as I was a top 10 runner in the state of Maryland during my high school career. Aside from running I also played basketball and earned the Most Valuable Player award my senior year. I am a super sports fanatic but also enjoy binge watching Friends and Grey’s hoping my find my “Ross” or “Dr. McDreamy.” I am a certified foodie and will travel great distances if taste buds approve. I am always here to answer any questions or concerns you may have or find the correct person who can assist you, so please feel free to reach out as we look forward to an incredible school year.

Secretary Reanna Robinson

Hello Hawks family, my name is Reanna Robinson, Secretary of the Student Government Association for the La Plata campus. While serving as a Transportation Security Officer (TSO) at the Department of Homeland Security, I am studying for a law degree. I earned a certificate in Hospitality and a Letter of Recognition (LOR) in Criminal Justice. In the fall of 2021, I will be attending George Mason University. During my free time, I enjoy volunteering and giving back to my community. In my efforts to help build everyone's future, I am here to help. Any questions, comments, or concerns, I am here for you.

Representative Rachel Polk

Rachel Polk is one of your Student Association Representative's for the 2020-2021 school year. This is Rachel’s third year at CSM and she is majoring in Sports Management and Exercise Sciences. Rachel is extremely involved with athletics at the school! If you don’t find her on the softball field playing for our women’s softball team, she also spends lots of time at other sporting events working for athletics. Outside of school, Rachel loves the gym, listening to country music, spending time with friends and family, and is a huge University of Tennessee fan. Rachel is beyond excited to kick this school year off! She is always wanting to help others, so even in the difficult times everyone is going through she encourages you to reach out and she will always be willing to listen and help!

Representative Sydney Mitchell

Sydney is one of your student Representatives for the 2020-2021 school year. It is Sydney's second year at CSM; she’s majoring in Political Science. Sydney is actively pursuing a career in the political field. She plans on either running for office or combining her writing abilities and love for politics in political journalism. After her time at CSM, Sydney plans on transferring to George Washington University and double majoring in political science and journalism. She loves playing any (and all) of her instruments, writing, painting, drawing, and watching New Girl. Sydney is excited to have the opportunity to be a voice for the student body and to actively help and serve you every day. Representative Taylor Dean

Taylor Dean is one of your Student Association Representatives at the College of Southern Maryland. This is her first semester as she is excited for what her future holds! Taylor is a student athlete in our women’s basketball program. She plans to major in Pre health and pursue a career in physical therapy.  Some of her favorite hobbies are watching Netflix, cooking, and most outdoor activities including running, hiking, and working out. Taylor is a kind leader that is willing to help with any problem or just here to have a conversation!

Representative Kaitlyn Culbert

Kaitlyn is one of your student Representatives for the 2020-2021 school year. She is working to complete CSM’s nursing program this Spring semester, while also being dual enrolled at Stevenson University. She is very excited to help build a friendly community for students and staff. Kaitlyn played softball for CSM during her first two years here and is now assistant coaching a local softball team. Some of her interests are cooking meals for her family, spending time with her friends, and helping others when in need. She is a great listener and is always happy to help. So, feel free to stop by Student Life if you ever have any questions or concerns!

The Student Association (SA) of the Leonardtown campus is comprised of elected student leaders that represent the student body at Student Government Association (SGA) meetings.

The SA exists to provide a venue for students to have a say in decisions that affect student life. The voting membership of the SA consists of the SA Executive Board, campus representatives and student club presidents. Club leaders and all registered students are welcome to join the SA Executive Board in hearing updates from SGA meetings and to bring forth any questions or concerns about student life at monthly SA General meetings..

President Joan Popoola

Joan Popoola is the President of the Leonardtown Campus Student Association. Joan currently works as an intern at the PAX River Naval Air station. She graduated from Great Mills High School in 2018. Active in her community, Joan volunteered at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, she plays the violin for offertories, performs secretarial/ office duties at her local church, and plays the national anthem at the PAX River Naval Air Station for different events. In her free time Joan enjoys sleeping, cooking, and traveling. This fall 2020 will be Joan’s last semester at CSM and will transfer to the University of Maryland College Park to complete her bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Vice President Kristine Williams

Kristine Williams is the Vice President of the Leoanrdtown Campus Student Association . She is in the Nursing Program and graduating in the Spring of 2021. Throughout her years at CSM, she always loved the events the Student Association held. She previously held the office of Representative and thoroughly enjoyed her colleagues as they all treated each other like family. In addition, she has always had an interest in helping the community and students have a great time on campus with special events. With CSM being a small community, Student Association creates a great way to have students engage with each other and create new friendships. 

Treasurer Kamille Cox

Kamille Cox is the Treasurer of the Leonardtown Campus Student Association. Kamille is currently working at Navy Getaways Solomon’s over on the Solomon’s Naval Recreation base. Kamille is studying Computer Science and hopes to get her Associate’s Degree in the Spring of 2021. While attending Great Mills High School, Kamille participated in Marching Band her sophomore year winning their State’s Championship that year. With the world currently being in a pandemic, Kamille hopes she will be able to provide the best experience she can for those attending CSM during the fall semester. 

Secretary Nicole Geiger

Nicole Geiger is the Secretary of the Leonardtown Student Association. She is an adult learner over the age of 30 and is completing her final year at CSM with a major in criminal justice. In the Fall of 2021, Nicole plans on transferring to Frostburg State University in western Maryland to finish her bachelor's degree in Law and Society with a Legal Studies concentration. In the future, she would like to work for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children or in the field of victim services. When not working or attending school, Nicole spends her free time researching and writing about local cold cases. 

Representative Nylasia Kelly

Nylasia is a Representative of the Leonardtown Campus Student Association. She is a Business major and plans to transfer to Bowie State University where she will further her education. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music, going shopping, and being a mentor to those younger than her.  

Representative Darnell Darden

Darnell Amaru Darden is a representative for the Leonardtown Campus Student Association.  Darnell is a Mathematics major and has participated in the AMATYC Student Research League. Darnell has worked as an English and Mathematics tutor for the College of Southern Maryland. Upon graduation, he hopes to transfer to a 4-year institution to attain his baccalaureate degree in Physics. In Darnell's free time, he podcasts, participates in fandom forums, and plays video games.

President George Southworth IV

George is a second-year student at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM), pursuing a major in Engineering. After graduating from CSM, he plans on completing his education at Penn State with the NROTC program. He graduated from St. Charles High School with many commendations for leadership and academic scholarship. George actively enjoys working in the community towards a positive change and efficient solutions for better processes. With this, he plans on improving the standard for student life at CSM.

Vice President Andres Walker

Andres Walker is your 2020-2021 Student Association Vice President at the College of Southern Maryland, Prince Frederick Campus. He graduated from Calvert High School in 2018 and is majoring in Business Administration. Andres enjoys spending his downtime at the gym and beach. He wants to watch others succeed and is willing to help out in any way he can. Don't be shy if you see him around!

Treasurer Sofia Walker

Sofia Walker is your 2020-2021 Student Association Treasurer at the College of Southern Maryland, Prince Frederick Campus. This is Sofia's second year at CSM. She is majoring in Early Childhood Education and plans to transfer to Salisbury University after she earns her associate degree. Outside of school Sofia enjoys spending time with friends and family, as well as cooking and baking. She hopes everyone is having a great time at CSM as well as she hopes to meet you! 

Secretary Rhey Mesowski

Rhey Mesowski is your 2020-2021 Student Association Secretary at the College of Southern Maryland, Prince Frederick Campus. Rhey is on her 2nd year in the AAS Accounting Program and she is also a member of the CSMD STEM Program. She finds math and science fascinating, and after she earns her degree next year, she will pursue a degree in mathematics. She loves interacting with other students and being an officer at the Student Association is a great way to meet great people from all walks of life. She enjoys singing, cosplaying, and traveling with her family. She wants to remind everyone that no matter how busy college life is, always make your personal time a priority and do not forget to have fun!

Representative Abigail Sellner

Abigail Sellner is your 2020-2021 Student Association Clubs and Organizations Representative at the College of Southern Maryland, Prince Frederick Campus. This is Abigail’s first year at CSM. She plans to major in Social Sciences, and subsequently transfer to University of Maryland, College Park after earning her associate degree. On her days off, she enjoys spending time with her friends, as well as going shopping. Abigail is a new and excited member of the Student Association and can’t wait to learn and grow with the rest of the CSM student body.

Representative Ben Knight

Ben Knight is your 2020-2021 Student Association Events Representative. Ben is a second-year student at CSM. Ben graduated from Huntingtown High School in 2019 and he attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan this past fall. After CSM, Ben plans to continue his academics at the University of Maryland and major in Physics. He joined the Student Association in hopes to bring a more engaging and fun student life experience to his fellow students.
