The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) recently inducted seven nursing students into Alpha Omega, CSM’s chapter of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN) Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society. The nursing students selected for this honor earned Bs or better in all of their nursing courses without repeating the courses and together completed a scholarly project related to the advancement of nursing as a profession.
Top minds and innovative thinkers recently competed for $12,000 in cash prizes during the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Velocity Center’s fourth annual VelocityX Hackathon – a challenge that required competitors to create Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist U.S. defense systems against enemy aircraft. Sponsored in partnership with the CSM Velocity Center and the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), the event saw seven teams battle it out to develop a winning AI-enabled aircraft detection software that supports a Navy-inspired mission.

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) announces that Dr. Suzanne Wilson Summers has been appointed to the position of Chief Academic Officer and Division of Learning Vice President, effective June 1, 2024. Did you know that a vehicle is stolen once every 32 seconds in the United States, and once every 47 minutes in Maryland? What about that 60% of cars stolen were unlocked, and 50% had the keys left inside? A host of elected officials, college presidents and leaders, community partners, faculty, staff and students gathered at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Thursday to formally install Dr. Yolanda Wilson as the college’s president and mark her first year of tenure. Wilson became CSM president Jan. 3, 2023.
“Dear to me, as your CSM president, is that we remain steadfast in our focus on ‘community, collaboration and culture’ and the premise that we will ‘go far, only when we go together,” Wilson told those gathered today at a Servant Leadership Panel sponsored by the Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr. Center for Leadership, the Nonprofit Institute at CSM and the CSM Foundation. The panel discussion kicked off CSM’s inaugural Day of Service that has CSM faculty, staff, and students volunteering at nonprofit organizations in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties throughout the day to give back to “the community that has given so generously to CSM.”
The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) began a week of activities to celebrate the upcoming March 28 inauguration of CSM’s sixth president, President Dr. Yolanda Wilson, by expressing gratitude to the institution’s community partners and donors. More than 200 ‘Hawk Heroes’ gathered March 22 at the La Plata Campus for an appreciation dinner, and to hear directly from students, staff and CSM leadership about how their generosity changes lives.
